The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) announces the opening of the selection process for the free master's degree in education, class of 2025, according to Notice No. 1178, of December 20, 2024. This is an excellent time for specific professionals to deepen their knowledge and develop research in different areas of education. The program offers 54 vacancies distributed between broad competition and affirmative actions, with opportunities for different profiles.

The main objective of this free course is to train teachers in education who are capable of developing research and projects that contribute to educational transformation. Activities include theoretical classes, group discussions, seminars, and the development of a dissertation. The total course load for the program is 405 hours, with mandatory and optional subjects taught in person at the Praia Vermelha campus in Rio de Janeiro.

Available vacancies and locations

The program offers 54 places for the free master's course, including:

  • 36 vacancies for general competition.
  • 18 vacancies reserved for affirmative actions, distributed among candidates who self-declare as black, brown, indigenous, people with disabilities and other groups.

Classes will take place on the campus of the Faculty of Education, in the Urca neighborhood, Rio de Janeiro, with possibilities for remote activities in specific cases.

Selection processes

The selection process will be carried out in three stages:

  1. Written test (eliminatory), with general and specific questions on the chosen line of research.
  2. Oral argument, based on the pre-project and Lattes CV.
  3. Validation of self-declaration for candidates applying for affirmative action vacancies.

Candidates who were not classified for the reserved vacancies may still compete for the general vacancies, depending on their performance.

Course Registration Requirements

To participate in the free course, candidates must have a degree or a certificate of completion of a course, in addition to presenting a preliminary research project. Documents such as a Lattes CV and specific proof of attendance are also required. Those who opt for remote submission will need to prove that they live more than 250 km away and have access to the internet.

Selection process schedule

  • Registration: January 06th to February 06th, 2025
  • Registration approval: February 14, 2025
  • Written test: February 21, 2025
  • Oral argument: April 15 to May 13, 2025
  • Final result: June 27, 2025
  • Registration: from July 01, 2025
