The largest truck manufacturers Daimler Truck, TRATON Group, and Volvo have signed an agreement to install a high-performance public charging network aimed at heavy-duty electric trucks for long distances. The objective of the companies is to accelerate the construction of charging infrastructure to increase their customers’ confidence and also contribute to the European Union’s shift towards neutral transportation.

The agreement between Daimler Truck, TRATON Group, and Volvo lays the foundation for a future joint venture, with equal participation from all three parties, expected to commence operations in 2022.
The companies plan to jointly invest around £500 million to install at least 1,700 charging stations for electric trucks at locations near highways, within five years of the establishment of the joint venture. The number of charging points will significantly increase over time, seeking additional partners as well as public funding.
