The 6th Energy Transition Research and Innovation Conference Brings Brilliant Minds Together to Discuss the Sustainable Evolution of the Brazilian Energy Sector.

The keys to a sustainable energy revolution are about to be explored. With a focus on emerging technologies and public policies that promote decarbonization, the 6th edition of the Energy Transition Research and Innovation Conference (ETRI) is set to illuminate the landscape. Scheduled from November 7 to 9 at USP in São Paulo, the initiative is a collaboration with the Greenhouse Gas Research and Innovation Center (RCGI) and expects over 500 specialists, both local and international.

More Than Technology: The Politics of Transition

“We cannot limit ourselves to just technological solutions; the energy transition requires robust public policies,” emphasizes Suani Teixeira Coelho, project coordinator at RCGI and a member of the event’s scientific committee. She reinforces the importance of defining clear paths to achieve greenhouse gas reduction targets and sees collaboration between government and industry as crucial in this process.

Karen Mascarenhas, director at RCGI and Chair of the event, highlights the synergy with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). “At RCGI, we have the expertise of over 600 researchers focused on mitigating GHG emissions, contributing to the targets of the Nationally Determined Contributions,” she adds.

Renowned Specialists Confirmed

The conference promises rich debates with the presence of government experts, including Ambassador André Correa do Lago and Federal Deputies Arnaldo Jardim and Fabio Feldman. Representatives from the private sector, such as Alexandre Breda from Shell Brazil and Viviane Romeiro, as well as renowned academics like Paulo Artaxo from the IPCC and Carlos Nobre, will also share their perspectives.

One of the highlights of the program is the high-tech startups, the deep techs, which are emerging as crucial catalysts in the energy transition. More than 200 scientific papers presented by RCGI and other institutes will cover a variety of topics aligned with Brazil’s energy potential.

General Information: Registration for the ETRI 2023 Conference is open and can be done through this link. Updated details, including speakers, schedule, and other aspects, are available on the official event website.

Learn About RCGI: Established in 2015, RCGI is a leading research center funded by FAPESP and partner companies. With a focus on development and innovation related to greenhouse gases, the center collaborates with renowned global universities such as Oxford and Princeton and hosts approximately 600 dedicated researchers.
