In this matter of CPG, let's explore together the secrets and wonders of this enchanting island, which is not only a natural icon but also an important economic center for the region.

According to information, the first mention of Orange Island dates back to 305 BC, during the Yongxing era of the reign of Emperor Hui of Jin. This makes it one of the oldest islands recorded in Chinese history.

During the Tang Dynasty (618–907), the renowned poet Du Fu visited the island and mentioned it in his writings about Daolin and Yuelushan temples, highlighting its beauty and importance. In 1904, at the end of the Qing Dynasty (1644–1911), the island was officially opened to the public.

Between 1911 and 1949, it served as the location for several foreign embassies and consulates, reflecting its strategic and cultural importance.

Connection with Mao Zedong

Orange Island also has a personal connection to Mao Zedong, the founder of the People's Republic of China. During his youth in Changsha, Mao and his friends often swam in the nearby Xiang River. In 2009, a giant statue of the young Mao Zedong was erected on the island, becoming one of the main tourist attractions.

The island offers a variety of attractions, from history to modern fun:

  • Hunan Cultural Corridor: a tour that celebrates the rich culture and history of Hunan Province.
  • Water fun corridor: a perfect space for water activities and relaxation.
  • Orange garden: a tribute to the orange trees that give the island its name, where visitors can enjoy the beauty and aroma of the fruits.
  • Nature garden: a place for nature lovers to explore the local flora.
  • Park of harmonious guests: a space for meetings and social events.
  • Shopping and food plaza: A vibrant location for shopping and dining experiences.
  • fitness center: for those who don't give up on staying active during their visit.

Significant economic impact

Orange Island is a major driver of the local economy. Designated as a AAAAA (5A) national tourist attraction, the island attracts thousands of visitors annually, generating significant revenue. It is estimated that the island generates around 50 million yuan (approximately US$7 million) per year, contributing to the local economy through tourism, commerce and cultural events.

Festivals and events, such as the Orange Island Music Festival, attract local and international tourists, further increasing the revenue generated by the island. Local commerce, including shops and restaurants, directly benefits from the constant flow of visitors.

Another point that attracts tourists is access to Orange Island, which is facilitated by a well-developed infrastructure. The Orange Island Bridge, opened in 1972, connects the island directly to the city's road network. Additionally, Juzizhou Station on Changsha Subway Line 2, opened in 2014, provides direct pedestrian access, making visiting even more convenient.

Island residence

Despite its popularity and well-developed infrastructure, Orange Island is not a residential area. The island is mainly intended for tourist, cultural and recreational activities, with no permanent residents registered. Its main function is to serve as a refuge for visitors seeking leisure and culture.
