Meet The Locomotive That Is Changing Rail Transport: 10,000 Tons Powered By Hydrogen In China With Efficiency And Speed
The first hydrogen-powered high-power shunting locomotive from China has successfully completed a 10,000-ton load test.
Developed jointly by CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. and the National Energy Group, this achievement took place at the SiDaoLiu station of the Xinshuo railway line, once again demonstrating China’s commitment to sustainable innovation.
China Advances In Green Innovation With The First High-Power H2 Locomotive
The locomotive, which uses hydrogen as its main power source, successfully performed a constant drag operation of 105 C80 type wagons over 2 km, setting a precedent for the commercial application of green energy technologies in the heavy rail freight sector. This feat not only represents a significant technological advance but also underscores the direction toward a low-carbon economy.

Mitsubishi confirms the triumphant return of a car beloved by Brazilians that was discontinued after almost 40 years, based on the Triton, 4×4, and targets rival Toyota Land Cruiser in a plan of 13 SUVs.
The innovation behind this shunting locomotive lies in its propulsion system, which combines hydrogen fuel cells with lithium batteries to generate a maximum power of 2,400 kilowatts. Capable of reaching design speeds of up to 100 km/h, the locomotive can pull a load of 10,000 tons on flat terrain and 5,000 tons on 4% gradients. This impressive performance is a testament to the advanced engineering capabilities and environmental sustainability focus of CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive.

Additionally, the locomotive incorporates a high-power hybrid energy system that combines hydrogen fuel cells and electric batteries. This system is characterized by its efficient energy management and power control, ensuring stable operation during dragging and braking. Its modular and standardized design allows it to adapt to different traction needs, offering a flexible and efficient solution for various railway operations.

This achievement also highlights the feasibility of refueling the locomotive with hydrogen in just 30 minutes, thus promoting greater efficiency and sustainability in railway operations. With this innovation, China is not only advancing its transition to cleaner energy sources but also setting a new standard in the global railway industry.
