Discover the new Uber Black rules, which remove ten vehicles from the premium category and limit the BYD Dolphin’s presence until 2027.
An important change will affect drivers registered with Uber Black starting in 2027. The platform announced an update to the list of vehicles accepted by the premium category.
In total, ten models from eight manufacturers will no longer be able to operate in the segment, regardless of the year of manufacture presented.
According to Uber, the new rules will come into effect on January 11, 2027. Only the Volkswagen Virtus will have a different date.

The Volkswagen model will remain accepted until July 5, 2027. After this period, it will also lose access to the premium mode.
The decision affects vehicles from the brands Citroën, Renault, Chery, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Toyota, Audi, and Volkswagen.
The company also established a specific schedule for the BYD Dolphin. The electric car will be able to remain in Uber Black only for a limited period.

The update removes from the category the models Citroën C4 Cactus, Renault Duster, Chery Arrizo 5, Chevrolet Cruze, and Citroën C4 Lounge.
The list also includes Hyundai Ioniq, Toyota Prius, Audi A3, Volkswagen Nivus, and Volkswagen Virtus.
Nine of these vehicles will leave Uber Black on January 11, 2027. The Virtus will be excluded only on July 5.
The removal will be applied regardless of the year of manufacture. Therefore, even the most recent units of these models will lose access to the premium service.
Owners will still be able to make trips in other modes. For this, each car must meet the requirements of the chosen category.
Citroën and Volkswagen will be the most affected manufacturers. Each company will have two vehicles removed from Uber Black’s official list.
Uber stated that it periodically reviews the criteria for premium categories. The evaluations consider user surveys and changes in the automotive market.
The platform will also update the minimum years of manufacture in 13 Brazilian cities, including São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, and Belo Horizonte.
The Honda City will need to have a minimum manufacture year of 2023. The BYD Dolphin must be produced from 2024 onwards.
Volkswagen Virtus and Peugeot 2008 must have a minimum manufacture year of 2025. For the other cars, the requirement varies between 2018 and 2019.
What will be the situation of the BYD Dolphin in the premium category
The BYD Dolphin received a different transition rule from the ten excluded vehicles. The platform will allow new registrations of the electric vehicle until December 31, 2026.
Cars registered within this period will be able to remain in Uber Black until December 31, 2027.
From January 1, 2028, the Dolphin will no longer serve passengers in the premium category, even when meeting other requirements.
The calendar grants approximately an additional year to drivers who register the vehicle before the deadline set by the platform.
In addition to the model and year, Uber Black requires cars with four doors, air conditioning, and colors previously determined by the company.
Drivers also need to complete more than 100 valid trips on the platform. The minimum average required in user ratings is 4.85.
The changes will also reach Uber Comfort in January 2027. Eleven models will leave the intermediate category during the update.
Thus, drivers will need to check the eligibility of their vehicles in advance. The consultation may prevent investments in models close to being removed from the premium categories.
