The New Raízen Plant Aims to Produce More Renewable Solutions for the City and Improve the Local Economy with Job Generation!
Raízen, after breaking ground on the fourth Second Generation Ethanol Plant, is building its new ethanol plant “next” to the Barra Bioenergy Park in Barra Bonita, São Paulo state, with operations and job distribution expected to start in 2024.
Similar to the Univalem Bioenergy Park plant in Valparaíso -SP, where the groundbreaking was inaugurated last week. The Barra plant will have a production capacity of 82,000 m³ of ethanol per year, including an annual capacity of approximately 164 million liters of biofuel.
Upon completion of the new plant, Raízen will become the world’s only producer operating four industrial-scale cellulosic ethanol plants, achieving its strategic goal of expansion and enhancement of its portfolio of renewable solutions.

Economic Development and Job Generation
The new ethanol plant will also contribute to the development of the local economy, with job generation, increased tax revenue for the municipality, and will also contribute to financial growth in the regional commerce. By the end of the construction of the ethanol plant, 170 direct jobs and 700 indirect jobs are expected to be generated.
To achieve this goal, Raízen has partnered with the Secretary of Economic Development of Barra Bonita for SENAI and SENAC courses aimed at technical training for the job openings that will be offered.
Professional Training
Technical schools for specific courses will also be created to meet new professional demands. Additionally, the new plant will serve as an attraction for hotel chains, temporary housing, and restaurants, which are expected to establish themselves in the region to cater to the influx of new people due to the services and jobs created.
“Seeing the fourth ethanol plant being built is an accomplishment. It is a project that, in addition to expanding our portfolio of renewable solutions and promoting the expansion of Bioenergy Parks, helps stimulate the economy of the municipality of Barra Bonita, providing jobs, generating income, and wealth,” celebrates Francis Queen, VP of Ethanol, Sugar, and Bioenergy at Raízen.
