With Revenue Exceeding R$ 90 Billion, Giants Like JBS, Minerva, and Marfrig Boost Exports, Generate Thousands of Jobs, and Consolidate Brazil as a World Power in Beef.

Brazil has consolidated its position as a global power in beef. The second-largest producer in the world, behind only the United States, and a leader in exports, the country maintains trade relations with 159 international destinations — including China, the United States, Chile, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa).

The Domination of Brazilian Slaughterhouses

Behind these impressive numbers are companies that support the weight of the national agribusiness.

According to the Best of Agribusiness Yearbook from Globo Rural, JBS holds the first place among the largest slaughterhouses in the country, with a net revenue of R$ 51.4 billion in 2023.

Present in more than 20 countries, the company employs over 270,000 people and ranks among the largest food companies in the world.

Next are Minerva Foods (R$ 13.8 billion), Marfrig (R$ 8.6 billion), Frigol (R$ 3 billion), and Prima Foods (R$ 2.7 billion). Also among the top ten are Plena Alimentos, Frigoestrela, Frisa, Barra Mansa Alimentos, and Frigosul — all with revenues exceeding R$ 1.6 billion.

Exports on the Rise and Historic Records

The beef market is now one of the pillars of Brazilian agribusiness. In addition to being the largest exporter, the country ranks second in production and third in global consumption of the protein. Only in September this year, international sales generated US$ 1.25 billion, an amount almost 30%

Brazil has become a major power in international livestock. We export beef to more than 150 countries, along with other products that drive the economy and national agriculture.

Record Expansion of JBS in Mato Grosso do Sul

In April 2024, JBS announced an ambitious plan to double production and jobs at the Campo Grande II unit in Mato Grosso do Sul.

The investment of R$ 150 million will make the complex the largest beef slaughterhouse in Latin America and one of the three largest in the group worldwide.

The factory, which currently processes 2,200 animals per day, will increase its capacity to slaughter 4,400, with the workforce rising from 2,300 to 4,600 employees.

The unit, built in 2007 and acquired by the company in 2010, supplies the domestic market and exports to countries such as China, the United States, the European Union, Argentina, Chile, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, and Egypt.
