For decades, hard floor cleaning followed pretty much the same routine: first sweep or vacuum, then mop or scrub, and finally deal with buckets of dirty water. Dyson decided to rethink this process by launching its first equipment developed exclusively for floor washing, eliminating some of these steps in a single machine.

Named Dyson WashG1, the device was designed to simultaneously remove dry and wet dirt on ceramic, porcelain, laminate, vinyl, and other hard surfaces. Instead of using suction like a conventional vacuum cleaner, the equipment employs two motorized microfiber rollers that rotate in opposite directions while receiving clean water in a controlled manner. Product information was released by Dyson in 2024.

Unlike the brand’s line of vacuum cleaners, the WashG1 was not developed to clean carpets or rugs. According to Dyson, it is the company’s first equipment created exclusively for washing hard floors, combining hydration, absorption, and extraction to remove splashes, stains, dust, hair, and small debris in a single pass.

The manufacturer claims that the system allows cleaning kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, and other areas without the need to use a traditional mop after vacuuming.

Two rollers rotate in opposite directions to remove wet and dry dirt at the same time

The main technical differential of the WashG1 lies in the cleaning set. The equipment uses two motorized microfiber rollers, positioned one in front of the other, that rotate in opposite directions. While they work, an electronic pump distributes clean water through 26 hydration points, keeping the rollers constantly moistened throughout the cleaning process.

According to Dyson, this configuration increases the contact time with stains and facilitates the removal of dry and wet dirt without spreading residues across the floor.

The machine automatically separates solid waste from dirty water

Another feature that sets the WashG1 apart is the waste separation system. Instead of mixing all the dirt in a single reservoir, the equipment directs contaminated liquids to a specific tank while larger particles, such as crumbs, hair, and small solid waste, are retained in an independent tray.

According to the manufacturer, this makes disposal more hygienic and prevents large particles from circulating through the device’s internal system. The clean water reservoir has a capacity of 1 liter, while the dirty water tank holds approximately 0.8 liter.

Self-cleaning system prepares the equipment for the next use

After completing the cleaning, the WashG1 can automatically perform a self-cleaning cycle. In this process, clean water runs through the entire internal circuit while the rollers continue to spin, removing accumulated residues before the equipment is stored. Dyson recommends complementing this process with periodic manual cleaning of the reservoirs and debris tray to maintain the device’s performance over time.

User can choose different hydration levels according to the type of dirt

The WashG1 offers three main hydration levels, plus a boost mode for tougher stains. The system allows increasing or reducing the amount of water applied according to the type of floor, the level of dirt, and the user’s preference.

According to the company, this adjustment helps to avoid excess moisture on more sensitive surfaces and improves efficiency in removing heavier dirt.

Equipment was created for hard floors, not for carpets

Dyson highlights that the WashG1 was developed exclusively for hard floors. For carpets, upholstery, mattresses, or car interiors, the manufacturer continues to recommend the use of the brand’s conventional vacuum cleaners. The device offers a runtime of up to 35 minutes per charge, which is sufficient, according to the company, to clean areas larger than 290 square meters, depending on usage conditions.

With the launch of the WashG1, Dyson expanded its portfolio of equipment aimed at home cleaning. The company’s proposal is to replace traditional processes, reducing steps such as vacuuming, scrubbing, and rinsing the cloth separately.

By combining motorized rollers, automatic waste separation, electronic water control, and self-cleaning in a single device, the WashG1 represents Dyson’s entry into a rapidly growing segment: intelligent washers dedicated exclusively to cleaning hard floors.
