Ex-skateboarder Faces 1,3 Thousand Kilometers in Seven Days, Accompanied by Friends, Combining Physical Preparation, Emotion, and Spirituality, in Journey Marked by Gratitude, Overcoming, and Awareness About Exams
The ex-skateboarder Douglas Dalua starts this Monday (16) a journey that blends physical endurance and emotion. By bike, he departs from São Leopoldo, in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, towards Aparecida, in São Paulo. The goal is to fulfill a promise made after his mother’s cancer recovery. The route exceeds 1,3 thousand kilometers and the expectation is to complete it all in seven days.
A Bike Ride Loaded With Meaning
Douglas leaves the Church of Our Lady of Aparecida in the southern city, accompanied by two friends. Besides providing support, they will also be responsible for recording each stage of the journey.
The group’s expectation is to cycle between 130 and 230 kilometers per day, on a route that could reach up to 1,400 kilometers, depending on the roads in São Paulo, until they reach the National Sanctuary.

Training, Memory, and Gratitude
According to Douglas, the preparation began at least three months ago, still during the most delicate period of his mother’s treatment.
He reports that he expedited private exams and monitored each phase of the process. The connection to the destination is not recent.
In 2012, the year he won the world skateboarding championship, he brought his mother to the Sanctuary for the first time. After her recovery, he decided to turn gratitude into movement.
“I am an only child, raised by my mother. She is my foundation,” he says, emotional.
Support That Turned Into Fuel
The cyclist highlights that the idea gained momentum with the encouragement of his companions. Tonho reached out, saying that he shared the same purpose. Later, Gênesis joined the challenge.
Luiz Antônio, known as Tonho, has experience in long routes and points out nutrition and rest as the biggest obstacles.
He explains that maintaining good consumption is essential, as energy expenditure is intense.
First Stage Defined
For the first day, the plan is to cover 230 kilometers to Sombrio. Following that, the group will tackle six more stages, with sections varying between 130 km and 230 km, until completing the route.
The return will be by car, due to the professional commitments of the three participants. Douglas emphasizes that the promise was born at the most difficult moment of his mother Niveria’s diagnosis.
He believes that faith was decisive. “For faith, there is no distance,” he summarizes. In addition to being a gesture of gratitude, Dalua emphasizes that the trip also serves as a reminder of the importance of prevention and routine exams, a topic that has taken on new weight in the family’s life.
