The billionaire Elon Musk announced this Thursday, 27, that he has finally completed the lengthy process to acquire Twitter. The announcement made on Twitter, titled “Dear Twitter Advertisers,” summarizes the businessman’s plans with the deal.

Musk also explains in the announcement that the reason he bought Twitter was that he believes it is important for the future of civilization to have a common digital space where broad beliefs can be debated in a healthy way, without resorting to violence.

“Currently, there is a great danger that social media will fragment into echo chambers of the far right and far left that generate more hate and divide our society,” says Musk. “I didn’t do it because it would be easy, I didn’t do it to make more money.”

The confirmation of the purchase of Twitter will finally end the long tug-of-war between Musk and the social network’s management. In April, the billionaire made a total buy offer for the social network for US$ 43.4 billion.

However, in the following months, Elon Musk declared issues with the project due to the number of fake accounts and bots active on the social network. Twitter responded with a lawsuit, which would compel the billionaire to buy the social network according to the agreement made.

The negotiation was only concluded on the 6th, three days after the businessman announced he would honor his initial purchase proposal.

Reuters reports that Elon Musk has already notified the co-investors of the project and that they officially completed the purchase on Friday, 28. The deadline is the same as that established by a judge from the Delaware court in a previous case regarding the negotiation.

According to a financial report released by Bloomberg News, a videoconference will finalize the financial details with the bankers who invested money in the deal.
