Residents of Tocantins Bet on Solar Energy as a Solution for the Dry Period and Also as a Way to Reduce Electricity Bills.

During the dry season in Tocantins, the demand for solar panels increased by 30%. Residents with solar panels in their homes claim that solar energy is low-cost and more eco-friendly, and a company now wants to install a floating solar power plant.

Tocantins Secretariats Meet to Discuss the Project

On Tuesday (29), the president of the Tocantins Rural Development Institute (Ruraltins) and the Secretary of State for Agriculture, Livestock, and Aquaculture (Seagro) met with representatives from the solar energy company LM, who will be responsible for taking the solar park from conception to reality.

The project aims to serve rural producers, but it may also benefit some residents in the area. The technique to be used is a new method in Brazil, floating solar panels that will hover above the water and generate solar energy for farmers in the region.

Small Floating Solar Power Plant

As mentioned earlier, this type of technology is already used in other countries, mainly in lakes, ponds, and water treatment plants. The goal of a floating solar power plant, in some cases, is to produce energy for pumping water intended for agriculture.

However, it is not just about that; the energy produced by this type of plant also helps reduce evaporation rates in reservoirs and even decreases the proliferation of algae due to shading. A floating solar power plant is a power generation facility driven by sunlight, just like a land-based solar plant, but installed on the water’s surface.

For this, the use of floaters is necessary, which are the structures that support the solar modules (panels) over the water. A photovoltaic panel can weigh up to 25 kg, so these structures must be very durable.
