LOTS Group Initiative, part of the Scania Group, in partnership with SEST SENAT seeks to develop women who have a category “E” driver’s license with little or no experience.
Finding women driving heavy vehicles, such as buses and trucks, is still uncommon in Brazil. To balance this scenario and attract women to the logistics sector, the LOTS Group, a company working on the future of transportation and part of the Scania group, in partnership with SEST SENAT, has invested in recruiting women with a category E driver’s license, with little or no driving experience. The program Women Behind the Wheel has one of its main objectives to promote gender equality within the transportation sector. According to the National Traffic Department, the country has around 4.39 million National Driver’s Licenses for heavy vehicles, of which 97.19% are held by male drivers and only 2.81% by women.
Anerilene Alves de Souza, 32 years old, forestry driver, participated in the first class of Women Behind the Wheel in 2021, in the LOTS operation in Três Lagoas, Mato Grosso do Sul. Of the 12 women who participated in the course, she and eight others were hired. “The program opened doors for me that I never imagined I could reach. I dreamed of being a truck driver since childhood and I am very fulfilled to work in a company that values women,” she emphasizes.

“Transportation is not a predominantly female sector. On the contrary, we have only 17% of women in this segment, which is why developing this audience for the market is so important. There is a shortage of labor in the transportation sector, and investing in training women to fill these vacancies is a way to provide opportunities for these professionals and also meet market demand,” explains Renata Harumi, responsible for the LOTS project in the Três Lagoas region.

Focused on four sectors: agribusiness, mining, forestry, and road transport, LOTS works to truly improve the quality of deliveries with innovative implementations, aiming for the arrival of hyper-technology vehicles in logistic operations that occur in confined environments with less human interaction.
