In Rio Grande do Sul, the City of Capão da Canoa Will Build an Offshore Wind Farm 7 Kilometers from the Coast
Seen as a new way to generate wind energy, offshore wind generation can attract billion-dollar investments in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. In the municipality of Capão da Canoa, the Força Eólica do Brasil project, located seven kilometers from the coast, in which shareholders are Neoenergia and Elektro Renováveis, is currently being processed at Ibama. The Environmental Protection Agency is consolidating regulations for licensing.

Cláudia Pereira da Costa, superintendent of Ibama, stated that the terms of reference for offshore wind generation are being prepared, which should be completed later this month. According to Cláudia, called the Águas Claras Maritime Wind Complex, it awaits the finalization of the Terms of Reference to conduct the Environmental Impact Study (EIA).
The project is expected to have 200 generators of 15 MW with a total installed capacity of 3,000 MW, which approximately represents 75% of the average energy demand in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. According to players in the wind energy sector, the necessary investment to build this infrastructure ranges between 25 billion to 30 billion reais.

The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.

Africa has about 500,000 cell towers and most still burn diesel to operate, while companies rush to cover antennas with solar energy and avoid signal blackouts.
When the project is completed, it will become the largest private investment in the history of Rio Grande do Sul. Currently, this title belongs to CMPC – an industry that produces bleached pulp from short fiber eucalyptus, which invested in the expansion of the Guaíba factory, a total of R$ 5 billion.
The superintendent of Ibama mentioned that offshore wind farms can harness wind energy more consistently and rapidly because they will not encounter natural barriers like those installed on land. Currently, Ibama has seven projects of this model in licensing processes, and they will be developed in the future in Ceará, Rio de Janeiro, and Espírito Santo.
