The Energy Use Through Renewable Resources in Alagoas Reached 81%, Double the National Average Using Renewable Energy
In 2019, Alagoas ended the year with 81% of energy use through renewable energy. In practice, this means promoting sustainable and efficient development, generating more jobs and investments for the state sector. In the state, the main topics of the main sources of renewable resources are: bagasse, sugarcane molasses, sugarcane juice, hydropower, firewood, natural gas, and oil.

This value is reported in the Energy Balance of Alagoas (Beal) -Base 2019 published annually by the National Secretariat for Economic Development and Tourism (Sedetur).
The Superintendency of Energy and Mining (Suem) is responsible for monitoring the secretary, and it believes that the number is the result of a joint effort by:
-
Advancement in renewable energy: A R$ 150 million project launched by Petrobras and Finep aims to create state-of-the-art electrolyzers for green hydrogen, strengthening national research and preparing Brazil to compete in a billion-dollar energy market.
-
Illiterate or semi-literate grandmothers were trained to repair solar systems, open rural workshops, and light up homes that still depended on kerosene.
-
The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.
-
Africa has about 500,000 cell towers and most still burn diesel to operate, while companies rush to cover antennas with solar energy and avoid signal blackouts.

Caio Uchôa, superintendent of Suem, said that “We are moving towards structuring, more and more, an assertive public policy for planning productive sectors and promoting the state’s potential. The consolidated number in the Beal shows that Alagoas is effectively advancing with good practices for the benefit of society by generating more work and investments.”
Alagoas also has 2,224 distributed photovoltaic plants. This total includes various installations set up in solar panels that benefit 3,793 consumer units, which can improve local energy consumption. The total installed power is 28.5 MW. The advantages of using energy from renewable sources include lower costs, lower pollution rates, lower carbon emission rates, and low maintenance needs, which align with businesses in Alagoas.
