24-Page Document Provides Recommendations for Public Entities and the Private Sector to Promote Renewable Energy Development in the Northeast and Generate Millions of Jobs.
The Northeast region is regarded as one of the major leaders in renewable energy production, a “pot of gold” for private sector investors in the coming years. Aiming at numerous opportunities that open up in the Northeast, this Tuesday (26), Brazilian civil entities announced a project based on the renewable energy, jobs, and water, titled The Northeast Power Plan – More Jobs, More Water, More Energy for Brazil.
The project includes recommendations for both public entities and the private sector to promote green development based on renewable energy from sources like water, wind, and sun, while also respecting the communities. These are divided into categories: workforce training; distributed generation; direct public management; social participation; and revitalization of the São Francisco River basin. The forecast is that around 2 million jobs will be generated in the coming years.
Understand the Details Behind the New Project in the Northeast
In the coming months, the project will be presented to candidates in the Northeast Region, who may leverage the ideas to decide the paths for economic revitalization in the region post-pandemic.

Brazilian scientists are simultaneously advancing two research projects on clean hydrogen and driving solutions that could transform the energy matrix, enhance industrial competitiveness, and accelerate large-scale emission reduction targets.
-
Advancement in renewable energy: A R$ 150 million project launched by Petrobras and Finep aims to create state-of-the-art electrolyzers for green hydrogen, strengthening national research and preparing Brazil to compete in a billion-dollar energy market.

Solar energy can increase property value by up to 10% and become a selling point.

Illiterate or semi-literate grandmothers were trained to repair solar systems, open rural workshops, and light up homes that still depended on kerosene.
The Northeast Power Plan is the result of a collaboration between civil organizations: Socioenvironmental Casa Fund, Bahia Environmental Group, Brazil Climate Center, and ClimaInfo Institute, with support from the Clima and Society Institute.
According to Delcio Rodrigues, the director of ClimaInfo Institute, the Northeast Power Plan includes various lines of action. The main goal is to bring the benefits of these investments to the Northeast population.
More Jobs and Renewable Energy
In the Northeast, only in renewable energy, about 66 MW of capacity has been released, equivalent to almost five times the capacity of the Itaipu hydroelectric plant.
If added and implemented alongside the growth of the sector for distributed generation, more than 2 million jobs can be generated, as already mentioned.
“The Northeast is currently undergoing significant changes. While renewable energies grow, it is essential to ensure that this expansion occurs in an orderly manner, with less impact and solid foundations for a labor market with good and qualified jobs to form,” says Aurélio Souza from ClimaInfo Institute.
According to research conducted at the request of the Northeast Power Plan by IPEC in the first half, about 64% of the Brazilian population shares the same opinion as the green industry, that this is the best model for the future of the Brazilian economy.
With about 73% of Brazilians – and 74% of the Northeast population – believing that the federal and state governments should prioritize the development of a green industry in the country.
Among Brazilians who would choose to work for fossil fuel-based companies, only 12% were indicated in the research.
“Sustainability is a topic that is here to stay, and in this election cycle, it will drive many debates, especially when voters consider the opportunities that may arise,” emphasized Souza.
The Renewable Energy Market in the Northeast Is the Most Profitable
The renewable energy sector in the Northeast is very promising, with a forecast made by the Energy Research Company and the Ministry of Mines and Energy indicating that around R$ 50 billion in renewable energy transmission lines will be installed from the Northeast to the rest of the country in the coming years, which will unlock thousands of new job opportunities.
