The Chinese manufacturer LONGi has set a new world record for efficiency in crystalline silicon solar cells, achieving 34.85% in a two-terminal tandem cell. The breakthrough was confirmed by the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and represents an important milestone for the solar energy sector.
Advancement in Solar Cell Efficiency
LONGi’s new solar cell combines two layers of different materials, perovskite and crystalline silicon, and reached 34.85% conversion efficiency. This result surpasses the previous record of 33.7%, achieved by KAUST University in Saudi Arabia.
