Contract Signed with Engecampo Is for the Completion of Unit in Train 1 of the Abreu e Lima Refinery, in Ipojuca (PE).
Good news at the end of this June filled the residents of Ipojuca and the surrounding area in Recife with optimism. Rnest is slowly resuming its construction works.
Despite Being on the List of Refineries That Petrobras Plans to Sell, Engecampo signed a contract with the state-owned company for the completion of a pipeline that will connect the refinery to the Port of Suape.
Currently, Engecampo is in the phase of setting up its construction site, an activity that is expected to last another 40 days. According to the Economic Development Director of Ipojuca, Gustavo Veiga, “We do not know the investment order, but the expectation is that around 400 jobs will be generated”.

While the world looks at forests, the UN warns that the Earth is also threatened by the silent degradation of natural grasslands and savannas, ecosystems that cover half of the planet, support billions of people, and can exacerbate water, food, and climate crises.
Petrobras confirmed the contract with Engecampo for the completion of the atmospheric emissions reduction unit (SNOX) of train 1 of the Abreu e Lima refinery and also stated in a note that the schedule for the new phase of construction is ongoing.
The note also added that Engecampo’s work began this June and should be completed by the second half of next year.
It is worth remembering that Rnest in Ipojuca began operating in 2014 with part of its total capacity of 230 thousand barrels per day and was the first refinery built by Petrobras after 34 years without this type of construction.
Today, Rnest is authorized to refine 115 thousand barrels per day, as only train 1 has been built. The completion of the SNOX Unit is important, as without it, the State Environmental Agency and Water Resources (CPRH) only authorized Petrobras to process 100 thousand barrels per day.
Prioritization of Local Labor
The Administrative Coordinator of Engecampo, Ivan Lopes de Souza, met with the mayor of Ipojuca, Célia Sales, and stated that he will prioritize filling positions for residents of Ipojuca.
The first positions offered will be for Welders, Welding Helpers, Carpenters, Engineers, and Assembly Mechanics, and according to the president of the union for workers in the road construction, paving, and earthworks industries in the state of Pernambuco (Sintepav-Pe), Aldo Amaral, the resumption of construction will already have a positive impact on the municipality, which currently has 25 thousand unemployed since the halt of the refinery’s construction.
