Last Friday, Engie Signed a Contract with Siemens for the Purchase of Turbines for the Wind Farm in Rio Grande do Norte
Engie Brasil Energia, part of the French group Engie, announced in a statement last Friday that it has signed a contract for the purchase of turbines to facilitate a wind farm in Rio Grande do Norte, which will require an investment of around 2.2 billion reais. The supply of the wind turbines will be allocated to the first phase of the Santo Agostinho Wind Complex, located in the municipalities of Lajes and Pedro Avelino, 120 km from Natal.

The Wind Farm:
The new wind complex expands the company’s business in the renewable energy sector and increases its offering in the free energy market. The Santo Agostinho wind farm is expected to invest around 2.2 billion reais and generate approximately 1,000 jobs in the area, with commercial operation expected to begin in March 2023.
The first phase of the Santo Agostinho wind farm will have an installed capacity of 434 MW, and all the energy generated will be directed to the free energy market, which is growing each year in Brazil.

The free energy market in 2019 had a business volume 6% higher than in 2018, with a revenue of 134 billion reais. According to data from the Brazilian Association of Electric Energy Industries (Abraceel), this sector already accounts for 30% of the country’s total electricity consumption.
Other Projects by Engie:
ENGIE has three other major projects that will generate more than 10,000 jobs. These include two transmission lines (Gralha Azul in Paraná and Novo Estado in Pará and Tocantins) and a wind farm (Campo Largo 2 in Bahia), with commercial operation starting this month.
