Change in PIX Rules Promises More Security and Requires Device Registration for High Transactions!
Highlighted as one of the most popular payment methods in Brazil, PIX will undergo a significant change starting on November 1st. New rules imposed by the Central Bank will require users to complete a security registration on their device; otherwise, transfers of amounts over R$ 200 may be automatically blocked.
The changes aim to make PIX even more secure, in light of the rise in fraud and scams. Financial expert Lila Cunha emphasizes that the measure was created to enhance user protection and “significantly reduce the risks of fraud”, according to fdr.
Main Changes in PIX
The new requirement is simple: only registered and bank-authorized devices will be allowed to make transfers over R$ 200 . This control should ensure that only the authorized user performs higher-value operations. Here’s how the changes will work in practice:
-
Reduction of working hours to 40 hours could cost R$ 77 billion to the GDP, raise food prices, and put up to 2.7 million jobs at risk, data indicates.
-
Supermarket giant buys 12 stores, Distribution Center, and two chains and accelerates expansion
-
There are only four days left until the Income Tax deadline, and the Federal Revenue Service is still awaiting over 13 million returns. Those who miss the 11:59 PM deadline on May 29 will incur a minimum fine of R$ 165.74 with no discount.
-
More than 220 Brazilian industries have already fled towards Paraguay and no one seems to be paying attention. The small neighbor is growing three times faster than Brazil and attracting billions in foreign investments while the South American giant remains stagnant.
- Transfers Above R$ 200: Starting in November, the user needs to have the device pre-authorized by the bank to carry out PIX transfers exceeding this amount. If registration is not completed, the operation may be automatically blocked.
- Daily Transfer Limits: For devices that are not yet registered, the daily limit will also be reduced, with a cap of R$ 1,000 for these transactions, according to guidelines released by the Central Bank.
- Device Registration and Authentication: Only devices never used for PIX transfers will need to be registered. The process involves facial recognition and identity verification, a protocol that varies by banking institution.
Safety in Focus and Practicality in PIX
The changes focus on the safety of customers using PIX. According to the Central Bank, the update has become necessary to ensure a more effective control in combating fraud and preventing financial losses. The release process for devices will be facilitated by many banks, which provide registration and authentication directly through the banking app, using facial recognition and document validation.
How to Register Your Device and Avoid Blocks
To ensure your device is eligible for transactions over R$ 200, follow these guidelines:
1st Access your bank’s app and go to the security settings section of PIX.
2nd Complete the device registration, which may include biometric authentication and document presentation for authorization.
3rd After registration, the R$ 200 limit will be lifted for that device, allowing transactions without restrictions.
These rules apply only to new devices that have not yet made transfers via PIX. For those already using PIX on the same device, no additional registration will be necessary.
