Petrobras to Launch Proposal for Brazil’s Largest FPSO
Petrobras will launch a proposal for the construction of Brazil’s largest floating production, storage, and offloading unit (FPSO). According to an article from Reuters that cited two people with knowledge of the matter, the state oil company will announce the offer by the end of August.
The news agency explained that these ships cost between US $2.5 billion and US $3 billion to build. The winning bidders construct and own the platforms and lease them to Petrobras under contracts with daily rates of up to US $1 million, which typically last over 15 years.
The sources also claimed that the FPSO will be located in the Búzios field, making it the seventh FPSO vessel in that location. Búzios is Brazil’s second most productive field and one of the largest deep-water discoveries of the 21st century.
