Olímpia will have an international airport. With R$1 billion in investments, the project should generate 5 jobs.
Olímpia will have an international airport. With R$1 billion in investments, the project should generate 5 jobs.

The new International Airport promises to be a milestone in Brazilian aviation. Generating thousands of jobs, revolutionizing tourism and attracting billions in investment, the project is set to transform the São Paulo region.

A gigantic project is about to redefine the future of northern São Paulo and, who knows, even Brazil.

Olímpia, the charming city known for its hot springs, will gain an international airport that promises to attract millions of tourists, boost the logistics sector and generate thousands of jobs.

But this is not just an ordinary infrastructure project.

He is surrounded by expectations, impressive numbers and an audacious vision: to transform the state of São Paulo into one of the largest logistics and tourism hubs in the country.

If you think you've already seen great works in São Paulo, wait until you find out the details of this project that could be a turning point for the entire region.

What is already known about the new airport?

According to information released by the Infrared, responsible for the administration and operation of the project, the Olympia International Airport will be built on an area of 200 acres, strategically chosen for its proximity to the Assis Chateaubriand Highway and the city center.

The construction was authorized by Ordinance No. 472, of October 1, 2024, published in Official Gazette, and already has a defined schedule: the preliminary technical studies will be completed by February 2025.

After that, the construction phase will begin in the second half of the same year, with completion estimated for 2028.

The terminal will have the capacity to serve up to 5 million passengers per year, with modern infrastructure adapted for national and international flights.

Jobs and economic development: the big attractions

If there is a reason to celebrate, it is in the numbers related to job creation.

According to experts, the construction of the airport should create more than 5 thousand direct jobs in the construction phase.

When in operation, others 2 thousand permanent jobs will be offered in areas such as logistics, tourism, security and food.

Furthermore, there is an expectation that the hotel network, restaurants and local businesses will also feel the positive impacts, generating even more indirect job vacancies.

With the new airport, Olímpia will be able to consolidate itself as a prominent tourist hub, attracting visitors from different parts of Brazil and abroad.

The impact of the airport on tourism in the region

Olímpia is already known nationwide for its tourist attractions, such as its famous water parks and thermal waters. Now, the arrival of the airport promises to boost this sector even further.

With direct flights, access to the city will be easier, especially for tourists from other states and even other countries.

According to analysts, the increase in the number of visitors is expected to double in the first few years after the airport opens, generating a significant impact on revenue in the tourism sector.

Furthermore, the airport will be an attraction for investors in the hotel sector, with projections of new hotels and resorts being built in the region to meet the growing demand.

Logistics: a strategic point for cargo transportation

The project does not focus solely on tourism. The location of the airport was strategically designed to become a logistics distribution center.

With its proximity to major highways such as the Assis chateaubriand, the terminal will be able to connect the interior of São Paulo to important international trade routes.

This will allow companies to use the airport to transport goods, increasing the region's competitiveness.

Industry analysts point out that the infrastructure can also attract industries and logistics companies to set up in the surrounding area, creating a virtuous circle of economic development.

Billion-dollar investments and public-private partnerships

The estimated cost of building the airport is over R$1 billion, involving public and private resources.

According to Infraero, a large part of this amount will be allocated to the construction of the runway, passenger terminals and logistics areas.

The government of São Paulo has already shown interest in financially supporting the project, highlighting its potential to transform the local and regional economy.

Furthermore, private investors are being attracted by the prospect of long-term financial returns.

The idea is that, over the years, the airport will become self-sustainable, with revenue coming from airport fees, commercial space rental and cargo operations.

The strategic location of the airport

One of the highlights of the project is its location. Located just 20 km from the center of Olímpia, the airport will be accessible to passengers from all over the region, including cities such as São José do Rio Preto e Barretos.

The proximity to major highways also ensures that tourists and businesspeople can easily reach the airport, reducing travel time. This convenience will be a competitive advantage over other airports in the state.

Next steps and official timeline

The project is moving forward at a fast pace. By February 2025, the Infrared will complete the technical studies and officially take over the administration of the airport.

From then on, the works will begin in the second half of the same year.

The estimated completion date is three years, with the inauguration scheduled for the end of 2028. However, adjustments or delays may occur, depending on factors such as changes in the project or regulatory approvals.

Olímpia on the international radar: the future of regional aviation

The new Olímpia International Airport is not just an infrastructure project. It represents a paradigm shift for the north of São Paulo.

With its ability to attract foreign tourists and logistics companies, Olímpia will have the chance to compete with larger cities, consolidating itself as one of the main development hubs in the state.

The question remains: will Brazil see more ambitious projects like this in the future?

It will be a strategic and very welcome airport for the interior of São Paulo. It will certainly relieve the pressure on the airports of Guarulhos and Campinas for both passengers and cargo.
