The Construction of Navy Corvettes Should Generate 8 Thousand Jobs at the Oceana Shipyard in Itajaí
The Oceana shipyard located in Itajaí (SC) was chosen by the Águas Azuis consortium for the construction of corvettes, which is estimated to create more than two thousand direct new jobs and another six thousand indirect jobs starting in 2021, when construction begins, being part of the Brazilian Navy, in addition to a supply chain throughout the State.
The new corvettes will have 31.6% national content for the first ship and 41% for the other three vessels, thus ensuring technology transfer and the training of national labor.
The success of efforts in the corvette project is the opportunity for a revival of the Brazilian shipbuilding industry, which has been shaken since the crisis that affected Petrobras due to Operation Car Wash.
Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems Aims to Boost Brazilian Shipbuilding
Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, with the purchase of the Oceana shipyard in Itajaí, states that one of its main objectives is to boost the Brazilian shipbuilding industry, as the idea is not only to build ships for the Brazilian Navy but also to receive orders from other countries.
It is also worth noting that Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems has a strong presence in the global underwater shipbuilding market and in the naval electronics sector, both in the technology itself and in defense.
