St. Johns Ship Building Delivers First Of Three Hybrid Crewed Transfer Vessels For Wind Farm.
The St Johns Ship Building shipyard in Palatka, Florida, has just announced that it has delivered the WINDEA Courageous, the first of three crew transfer vessels (CTV) in compliance with the Jones Act, ordered by WINDEA CTV, a partnership of Hornblower Wind wind industry.
The WINDEA Courageous, at 30 meters long, and its sister ships were designed by Incat Crowther and each can carry 24 technicians, in addition to six crew members. The St. Johns Ship Building shipyard is known for its high-quality, efficient vessels, and the WINDEA Courageous certainly does not disappoint in that regard.

The new builds will enter service supporting GE Renewables at Vineyard Wind 1 wind farm located 24 kilometers south of Martha’s Vineyard. WINDEA Courageous is already on-site in New Bedford, Massachusetts, supporting the construction of the project.

For St Johns Ship Building, constructing this series of CTVs marks the official launch of its new focus on high-speed aluminum ship production, the company stated. St Johns Ship Building has made several modifications to its facilities and acquired new production equipment in recent years in an effort to prepare for the construction of vessels to support the emerging offshore wind industry in the U.S.
‘This delivery is a prideful moment of validation,’ said Ed Sheets, Executive Vice President and Chief Business Strategy Officer of Americraft Marine Group, the parent company of St Johns Ship Building. ‘The WINDEA Courageous is a flagship vessel for St Johns Ship Building and marks the first measurable achievement in what has been a two-year effort to convert the facility and its talented, hard-working staff from a history of primarily steel vessel construction to building high-speed, advanced design aluminum vessels. To say that we are simply proud of this achievement does not do justice to the hard work and sacrifice of the SJSB team. They all faced the many challenges we encountered during this transition while raising the bar in this very segment of the industry.’
‘St. John’s Ship Building has reached a significant milestone with the successful construction and delivery of this WINDEA CTV LLC crew transfer vessel. Their dedicated efforts and expertise ensured the project was completed with precision and adherence to quality standards,’ said Junior Volpe, Senior Vice President of Vessel Construction and Repair at Hornblower Group.’
