Vestas Signs Agreement to Supply V236-15.0 MW Turbines to the 390 MW Shinan Ui Offshore Wind Project, with Fixed Foundations and Maintenance Service.
The South Korean company Hanwha Corporation has been chosen as the preferred supplier by Vestas for the 390 MW Shinan Ui offshore wind project in South Korea.
The project is a partnership of Shinan Ui Offshore Wind, a special purpose vehicle established by Hanwha Corporation E&C Division, SK D&D, and KOEN, in the Jeolla province of South Korea.
If the project materializes, it will feature 26 units of V236-15.0 MW turbines, which will be installed on fixed foundations in the southeast waters of Ui Island.

Vestas as Preferred Supplier
Vestas has also been selected to provide 20 years of operations and maintenance services for the wind farm once it becomes operational.

New Business with the Preferred Supplier
Nam Cheol Lee, Head of Wind Energy Business at Hanwha Corporation’s E&C Division, added: ‘We plan to strengthen our position as a leading company in the renewable energy sector through the realization of large-scale wind energy projects that require high-quality technology. We expect to expand our business to 3 GW by 2030 based on our accumulated knowledge and technology in the wind power generation business’.
Prosperity of the Main Supplier
Vestas has secured over 2.8 GW in firm orders for the V236-15.0 MW for which it obtained type certification in November 2023 and will begin serial production in 2024.
Continuation of Contract with Selected Supplier
If and when the agreement materializes into a firm and unconditional order for Vestas, it will enter Vestas’s wind turbine backlog, the company noted.
