A federal government-created program will start in March to provide thousands of students with a grant of more than R$ 9 thousand. Nicknamed “Piggy Bank”, this benefit, according to information from the Executive, will be a financial incentive in the form of “savings” for Brazilian students to complete high school.
According to information revealed by the Ministry of Education, this program will focus on rewarding low-income students for enrollment in the first, second, and third years. Additionally, attendance in classes, participation in the Enem, and finally, the completion of high school will also be considered.
Furthermore, according to the Ministry, to be eligible for the benefit, the student and their family must enroll in a public school and complete the Cadastro Único para Programas Sociais (CadÚnico).
It Is Not Yet Known Which Students Will Be Eligible
So far, it is still unknown which students meet the financial situation within the program’s target range. Another point that has not been clarified is the dates on which the amounts will be deposited.
-
The government requests the Federal Revenue Service for a new system to automate the income tax declaration, reducing errors, time, and bureaucracy for millions of Brazilians.
-
Pix in installments, international Pix, and contactless payment without internet: the Central Bank revealed the new features coming to the tool that is already used by almost every adult in Brazil.
-
Mercado Livre has just started selling medications with delivery in up to three hours to your door, and this move could completely change the way Brazilians buy medicines on a daily basis.
-
In Dubai, rising tensions from the war in the Middle East are causing super-rich individuals to leave the Gulf and direct their fortunes to a new financial refuge in Asia.
According to the Ministry of Education, which is responsible for defining the program parameters, the state networks will be responsible for collecting and informing the Ministry of the students’ data. “Thus, the Ministry will filter eligible students and send payroll to Caixa Econômica Federal. This will open the accounts and make the payments and manage the savings”, reported the Ministry of Education.
The Value of the Piggy Bank
According to the program, the total value of this grant can reach up to R$ 9.2 thousand for each student who completes high school. In this regard, the value will be distributed as follows:
- As soon as the student enrolls, R$ 200 will be deposited;
- If the student has an attendance rate of over 80%, nine installments of R$ 200 will be deposited, totaling R$ 1.8 thousand;
- The other ten monthly deposits, including the enrollment, will be made from March to June and from August to December.
Students Will Have a Bonus
In addition to the mentioned amounts, the government promises a bonus of R$ 1 thousand for each academic year completed with approval.
When Can the Amount Be Used?
According to the Ministry of Education, eligible students will be able to use two-thirds of the deposited amount as soon as the total is received.
The remaining amount will be kept and can only be withdrawn when the beneficiary student completes high school. Finally, the student who takes the Enem will also receive R$ 200 in a one-time payment.
Will Students Who Are Already in the Second and Third Years of High School Receive Retroactive Payments?
A common question may be whether students in the second or third year of high school will be entitled to receive any retroactive payments.
Unfortunately, so far, the answer is no. This is because there is no provision for students in the third or second year of high school to receive amounts related to the academic years completed in 2023 or 2022.
