The Importance of the Initiative
According to data from the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep), 33% of basic education teachers in Brazil do not have the proper training for the subjects they teach.
This scenario motivated the creation of the More Teachers portal, which centralizes all training opportunities in one place, facilitating access for educators to free courses offered in partnership with public universities and education departments.
With this measure, the federal government seeks to raise the quality of education in the country, providing educators with continuous improvement and qualification opportunities.
Furthermore, the platform contributes to ensuring that public and private school teachers expand their knowledge and stay updated with the latest teaching methodologies.
The lack of qualified teachers directly impacts student performance and the quality of education offered in schools.
<pThus, the MEC's initiative can represent a significant advancement in reducing this structural problem, promoting greater equity in access to quality education.
Selection Criteria
The criteria for participation in the courses vary according to the chosen modality:
- Undergraduate: candidates must meet the requirements of the offering institution and, in some cases, undergo a selection process.
- Postgraduate, Master’s, and Doctorate: selection may include curriculum analysis, interviews, and evaluation of research projects.
Some courses are exclusive to public school teachers, while others are open to all education professionals.
To financially support teachers who wish to continue their studies, the program offers the More Teachers for Brazil Scholarship, a grant aimed at ensuring that teachers can qualify without compromising their income.
This scholarship can be a decisive factor for many teachers facing financial difficulties and unable to invest in continued education.
The benefit reinforces the importance of valuing the teaching profession and ensuring that professionals have the means to enhance their knowledge without compromising their economic stability.
Expected Impact on Brazilian Education
The expectation is that the More Teachers platform will help reduce the shortage of specific training among basic education teachers.
The offer of free and accessible courses seeks to encourage the improvement of teaching quality in Brazil, directly benefiting thousands of students who depend on qualified and updated education.
Moreover, centralizing training opportunities allows teachers to more easily find courses that meet their needs and areas of interest.
The initiative also reinforces the importance of continuing education, essential for keeping up with changes in the educational landscape and adopting new teaching methodologies.
Strengthening the teaching profession and training teachers impacts not only the quality of education but also the appreciation of the profession.
With more qualification opportunities, it is expected that more teachers will feel motivated to remain in the field, contributing to reducing teacher dropout rates and improving the educational system as a whole.
