New Factory Will Strengthen Eternit’s Share in the State of SP, Increasing the Production Capacity of Fiber Cement Roof Tiles by Up to 20%
Eternit announced last Monday, 29, a binding offer for the acquisition of the fiber cement roof tile company Confibra for R$ 110 million. Increase of up to 14.5% in the electricity bill for those who harness the power of the sun in Ceará. Solar energy has already prevented the emission of more than one million tons of CO in Brazil

Confibra, located in Hortolândia, in the interior of São Paulo state, has a production capacity of about 14,000 tons/month, which will represent an increase of about 20% in Eternit’s industrial park. The operation, expected to be completed in the coming weeks, aims to strengthen Eternit’s position in São Paulo, where the company has no manufacturing unit for the product.
“This acquisition is a way for us to increase our market share and revenue without increasing the total market capacity. Thus, there will be no pressure on prices and margins”, says Luís Augusto Barbosa, president of the Eternit Group.

Eternit Supplies SP with Products from Its Factories in Rio de Janeiro and Paraná
Currently, Eternit supplies the region with products from its factories in Rio de Janeiro and Paraná. “We are not going to replace the products currently coming from these states with this new factory, as along with the installed capacity, we will acquire a market share. With that will also come the customer base from Confibra. Therefore, there will be no changes to any other Eternit factory”, adds Barbosa.
Another advantage of the acquisition will be the increase in production at the Manaus factory, where Eternit produces polypropylene, a raw material for fiber cement roof tiles. The company will supply the Confibra factory in Hortolândia with synthetic fiber coming from the Amazonian capital.
Eternit Starts Mass Production of Solar Roof Tiles to Sell in the Brazilian Renewable Market
Eternit is preparing for a major shift, after selling asbestos roof tiles for nearly 80 years, heavily investing in its solar roof tile project for the Brazilian renewable market. After receiving certification from Inmetro for the solar roof tiles, Eternit completed, just in the first two months of this year, four additional installations of the equipment along with the two projects completed in 2020.
The new photovoltaic renewable energy projects were installed in the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and the city of Cambé in Paraná. The smallest of them, in Ourinhos, used only 72 solar roof tiles in the installation but projected a monthly saving of R$ 50 on the electricity bill, with a capacity of 70 kWh per month.
Each solar roof tile, produced by Eternit, measures 36.4 cm by 47.5 cm and has a power of 9.16 watts, indicating an average monthly production capacity of 1.15 kilowatt-hours. Thus, Eternit’s largest renewable project, located in Marília with 560 solar roof tiles, indicates a production capacity of 550 kWh/month, sufficient for a discount of R$ 390 on the bill.
