Pentagon Announces Billion-Dollar Contracts with Lockheed Martin and RTX for Production and Export of Advanced Missiles to Strategic Allies.
The Pentagon announced at the end of July that it has awarded US$ 7.8 billion in contracts to Lockheed Martin and RTX Corporation. The goal is to manufacture thousands of new missiles for the United States Air Force and Navy, as well as various international allies.
Largest Contract in AMRAAM History
RTX Corporation will be responsible for producing the air-to-air AMRAAM missile, in a deal valued at US$ 3.5 billion. According to the Pentagon, this is the largest contract ever signed under the AMRAAM program. The package includes telemetry systems and engineering support products.
The AMRAAM is known for its flexibility and power, capable of being installed on various combat aircraft for air-to-air attacks or used as a ground-launched weapon for air defense.

It operates at different altitudes and can intercept highly maneuverable targets.
In addition to the U.S. armed forces, the supply will be made to allies in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Among the NATO countries receiving the armament are the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Hungary, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Poland, Sweden, and Finland.
Ukraine and Switzerland are also on the list. In the Indo-Pacific region, the missiles will be sent to Australia, Japan, and Taiwan. Israel and Kuwait complete the group in the Middle East.
Production of JASSM and LRASM
Lockheed Martin, for its part, will receive US$ 4.3 billion to manufacture the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) and the Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM).
Both will be used by the U.S. Air Force and Navy and sent to allied countries such as Poland, the Netherlands, and Finland, as well as Japan.
The JASSM is a long-range cruise missile capable of exceeding 500 nautical miles. It has a GPS system resistant to jamming and a 450 kg warhead with high precision.
Its stealthy design makes it suitable for covert attacks against land targets.
The LRASM was created to destroy vessels and maritime targets at ranges exceeding enemy reach. It operates at subsonic speed, features intelligent navigation, and can maneuver after launch.
The Navy describes it as a next-generation anti-surface weapon designed to overcome air defense systems.
