FAPESP Conference 2024 Discusses The Future Of Fuels In Sustainable Mobility, Addressing Biofuels And Electrification In Brazil.
On November 29, the important FAPESP Conference 2024 will take place, addressing essential issues regarding the future of fuels in the context of sustainable mobility. This event aims to explore new perspectives for the use of energy sources in Brazil, reflecting on the need for adaptation in light of global transformations in the sector. Innovations that can ensure that the fuels used in transportation are more efficient and less harmful to the environment will be discussed.
In the current scenario, considering the role of biofuels is crucial for achieving a greener mobility. The Conference will seek to clarify how sources of sustainable energy can be effectively integrated into the country’s energy matrix, offering viable alternatives to fossil fuels. Therefore, the event will serve as a connection point between researchers, policymakers, and the industry, aiming to promote practices that encourage the use of innovative and sustainable energy solutions.

Lecture On Fuels And Sustainable Energy
Moderated by Professor Ciro Antonio Rosolem, who is a counselor of the Sustainable Agro Scientific Council (CCAS) and also a professor at UNESP, the event will feature Luiz Augusto Horta Nogueira as the keynote speaker. He is an expert in energy systems and will present a comprehensive analysis of the challenges and opportunities Brazil faces in the fuels sector. The conference will seek to understand how biofuels, adopted in Brazil since the 20th century, impact the transportation matrix. Currently, they account for about 40% of the energy consumed in national transport. With the use of biofuels, there is a significant contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. However, the country is at a decisive moment, pressured by new electrification technologies and the growing global urgency for decarbonization in the sector.
The Role Of Biofuels In The Transportation Matrix
Given all the experience gained with renewable sources, Brazil needs to decide whether to adopt its own model, centered on biofuels, or to follow the global trend of electrification within the transportation matrix. During the event, Horta Nogueira will examine the different types of electrification of automotive vehicles and the various related technologies, aiming to identify the best alternatives to achieve sustainable mobility in Brazil. He will also provide an overview of the risks and opportunities associated with the adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles. Another important point will be the discussion of the economic and environmental implications that these choices entail for the future of the fuels sector. This event is part of the annual calendar of the FAPESP 2024 Conference series, which encourages interdisciplinary debates on science, technology, and innovation, having started in March of this year.
Interdisciplinary Discussions And Registrations
This year, nine in-person conferences have taken place at FAPESP’s headquarters, all addressing topics of great scientific and social interest, especially those related to fuels and sustainable energy. The penultimate session of 2024 will be held in person at the foundation’s headquarters, with registrations open to the public. To participate, just register for free at the provided link.
