At The Port Of Paranaguá And Antonina (PR), Maize Exports Increased By 388% Compared To The Same Period Last Year, Totaling 629.9 Thousand Tons. Soy Shipments Decreased By 47%, Generating 346.8 Thousand Tons.
Despite this, the port was responsible for handling the largest amount of oilseeds among other Brazilian ports. The CEO of Ports of Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia, stated that there was a significant demand in the export grain segment since the end of 2022.
This was reflected in the movement last month, when 29.6 thousand trucks loaded with soy, maize, and soybean meal were recorded at the Pará terminals. This number represented a record since 2016 and was almost 15% more than the 25.8 thousand transporters received in 2022.
As a result, solid bulk exports via Port of Paranaguá increased by 12.8%, reaching 1.2 million tons. The flow of goods through the East Corridor has been intense since then and has proven to be a significant advantage for the southern region of Brazil.

The New Moegão At The Port Of Paranaguá Will Enable Paraná To Take A Sustainable Logistical Leap
The Port Of Paranaguá, Located On The Coast Of Paraná, Received An Investment Of 592 Million For The Construction Of The Railway Grain Silo, Commonly Known As Moegão. This Structure Will Allow For The Simultaneous Unloading Of 180 Wagons Per Day, Expanding The Unloading Capacity By 63%, From 550 To 900 Wagons Daily.
A Consortium Formed By Four Companies Manages The Basic Project And The Construction, Aiming To Meet The Growing Demand Caused By The New Ferroeste. This New Railway Will Expand The Railway Infrastructure In The Interior Of Paraná, Connecting Mato Grosso Do Sul And Santa Catarina.
In Addition To The Exclusive Silo, The Terminals In The Eastern Region Of The Port Will Also Be Restructured, Improving The Capacity To Receive Cargo Via Road And Railway. This Project Includes Transport Galleries To Carry The Products Unloaded At The Silo To The Logistics Terminals In The Port Area.
The Project Also Includes Increasing The Depth So That Larger Ships Can Reach The Port. With 58.4 Million Tons Handled By Paraná Ports In 2022, There Was A Historic Record In The Annual Port Movement. 20.95% Of These Cargoes Were Transported By Rail, Of Which 80.4% Were Sugar, 35.39% Were Maize, 20.86% Were Soy, And 11.76% Were Petroleum Derivatives.
For 2023, A 40% Increase In Solid Plant Bulk Exports Is Expected During The First Quarter Of The Year. About 7 Million Tons Of These Products Will Leave The Port Between January And March. With The Completion Of The Moegão Project Soon, An Additional 24 Million Tons Will Be Transported Annually By Rail From The Paraná Ports, And 50% Of The Cargo Circulating Through The Port Will Be Transported This Way.
Additionally, There Will Be A 30% Reduction In Transport Costs, As Well As A 73% Reduction In CO2 Emissions. The Local Community Will Also Benefit From The Project’s Completion, As There Will Be A Significant Decrease In Crossings Between The Railway Lines And Streets Near The Port Area, Dramatically Reducing Accident Risks And Traffic Interruptions.
