Brazilian chicken meat exports to Iraq grew for the second consecutive month, reaching 13.5 thousand tons in September. The 7.9% increase reinforces Brazil’s presence in the Arab market and boosts exports from the poultry sector.
Brazilian chicken meat exports totaled 482.3 thousand tons in September, with a slight decrease of 0.6% compared to the same month in 2024, according to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). Despite the overall contraction, some markets showed significant growth, notably South Africa, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, South Korea, Iraq, and Hong Kong.

Between January and September 2025, Brazil shipped 3.876 million toneladas of chicken meat, a reduction of 1% compared to 2024. In value, the total accumulated reaches US$ 7.1 billion, 1.5% below the previous year.
The sector faced difficulties following an avian flu case in May at a farm in Rio Grande do Sul, which led to a temporary suspension of exports. Most of the embargoes have already been lifted.
South Africa Leads Imports
South Africa was the main destination in September, with 38.7 thousand tons imported, a 35.9% increase compared to 2024. Following are the United Arab Emirates (37.2 thousand tons, -10.2%), Mexico (37.1 thousand tons, +55.5%), Japan (36.4 thousand tons, -0.2%), and Saudi Arabia (35.7 thousand tons, +19.2%). Iraq ranked ninth overall and third among Arab countries.
The president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin, stated that there are good expectations for October, boosted by the resumption of sales to the European Union. Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, and Goiás led the exports during the period.
