Production in Full Swing at Volvo’s Factory Unit in Curitiba
The Vice President of Manufacturing at Volvo, Cyro Martins, reported that the Volvo factory in Curitiba has consolidated the vehicle manufacturing processes into a single unit, allowing the company to achieve gains in processes in addition to quality in the services performed within the unit.
Cyro states that all factory workers were concerned with once again anticipating the best trends in the cargo transportation sector. Several automated processes have been integrated into the factories, such as guided vehicle technology, virtual simulations, and the use of drones that help maintain control of the manufacturing inventory, which has already been part of the routine activities at the Curitiba unit.
With the arrival of the new Volvo truck models, the factory required additional reinforcement to handle the service demanded by the company.
Adaptations and Improvements of the Vehicles and the Factory
During the assembly of the trucks, some pneumatic ‘tighteners’ were immediately replaced with electronic ones, ensuring stability and more precision in the assembly of over four thousand screws, not to mention improvements in working conditions for the operational team.
Additionally, Volvo has introduced a new feat, the inclusion of robots, which have already come into action in the factory, also participating in the assembly of the truck’s instrument panel.
The installed equipment is responsible for controlling the volume of sealant application, and some cameras instantly inspect the results. If a failure occurs in the process, the robot is responsible for communicating with the operations department.
