A Chinese Manufacturer Announced A Billion-Dollar Mega Investment For The Construction Of A New Factory In Brazil. The Initiative, Which Will Be Located In Bahia, Promises To Generate Numerous Jobs In The Region, Boosting The Local Economy And Strengthening The Industrial Sector Of The State.
Several tire manufacturers, particularly Chinese companies, are eyeing Brazil to make significant mega investments. XBRI Tires, a Brazilian brand that currently outsources its production to countries like Thailand, Vietnam, Turkey, Cambodia, and China, is at the forefront of an ambitious R$ 1.5 billion project. Additionally, LingLong, a well-known Chinese manufacturer, plans to establish a new factory in Brazil, an endeavor that promises to generate thousands of jobs with an investment of R$ 1 billion.
It doesn’t stop there: another Chinese giant, Sailun Tyre, also plans to invest heavily in the country, with a funding of R$ 2 billion. These investments will not only strengthen the Brazilian automotive sector but also boost the economy, creating job opportunities and industrial development.
Bahia Is A Strong Candidate To Receive Mega Investment
The Chinese manufacturer LingLong, planning a mega investment of R$ 1 billion, sent a delegation to Brazil last month to assess land in Sete Lagoas and Pouso Alegre, in Minas Gerais, and in locations in the Northeast. These companies seek to be closer to established automakers or those arriving in Brazil, reducing delivery times.

The Chinese manufacturer LingLong and Sailun supply tires for BYD in China, which is about to start production at the former Ford factory in Camaçari, Bahia.
Bahia may have a significant advantage in attracting these companies due to the Chinese manufacturer BYD. The institutional relations director of Sunset Tires, owner of XBRI and responsible for the project of the new factory in Brazil, which is expected to generate thousands of new jobs, stated that he expects to finalize the mega investment by the end of the year.
According to him, it is a request from large companies to be close to their industrial plants, even to ensure product supply. For this, he is visiting possible locations, and Bahia is on the company’s radar to receive the new factory in Brazil.
Other Brazilian States Are Also Being Evaluated To Receive New Asian Factories
Paraná, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Espírito Santo, Goiás, and Minas Gerais are among the states evaluated by Sunset to receive mega investments and generate thousands of jobs.
Sunset is looking for a land of approximately 100 hectares for the factory, which will have the capacity to produce 5 million car tires and another 2 million for trucks. According to the institutional relations director of Sunset, Samer Nasser, the company is in the phase of defining which location it will set up in.
According to XBRI, Brazil offers an expanding market with great growth potential. XBRI tires, imported from China, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand, meet the main vehicle models present in the national market and are strong in replacement, with a presence in distributors and large retailers.
Last year, more than 3.5 million tires from the brand were sold, generating revenue of R$ 4.5 billion, with a projected advancement of 20% in 2024.
Company Comments On Mega Investment
According to Nasser, XBRI Tires was founded 36 years ago and has strategically positioned itself through the development of products designed for Brazilian climate and road conditions, but with 100% production abroad.
Currently, production, logistics, and tax costs for export from factories in Asia are already similar to production costs here, so it is understood that the time has come to make this mega investment that will create thousands of jobs.
Nasser noted, however, that it is crucial for the federal government not to raise the import tax on tires from 16% to 35%, a demand from Anip that is being analyzed by Camex, the Foreign Trade Chamber of MDIC, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Services.
For a new factory to be established in Brazil by the Chinese manufacturer, it is necessary to continue building a market for its tires, with a distribution and commercialization network.
