The schedule for the IRPF 2026 Refund has been reduced to four batches. Check the official payment dates and who has priority in the Federal Revenue queue.
The Federal Revenue of Brazil announced a restructuring in the payment schedule for those who have amounts to recover this year. With the aim of speeding up the delivery of resources, the IRPF 2026 Refund will be processed in a shorter period, concentrating deposits between May and August.
In total, it is estimated that about 23 million taxpayers will be covered, with the IRS planning to serve the vast majority right in the first releases.
IRPF 2026 Refund: batch dates
Unlike previous years, the payment schedule has been reduced to just four main stages. This strategic change allows the agency to return the amounts in a more concentrated manner.
-
Foreign companies advance in Brazil’s rare earths: Australian Oceana buys project in Minas Gerais in a deal that could reach US$10.2 million
-
While Brazil pays a minimum wage of R$ 1,621, in Switzerland, Germany, France, and Belgium it reaches R$ 28,000, and Europe exposes the difference in workers’ earnings.
-
Low-wage workers are losing their PIS/Pasep without even realizing it because the government changed the adjustment rule, and anyone who receives any salary increase may lose eligibility for the benefit.
-
The end of a classic document caused a short circuit in the Receita Federal, and now over 1 million tax returns are stuck in the Income Tax audit due to errors that are not the taxpayers’.
The dates set for the IRPF 2026 Refund deposit are:
- 1st batch: May 29.
- 2nd batch: June 30.
- 3rd batch: July 31.
- 4th batch: August 28.
Automatic refund and extra payments
One of the big news for this cycle is the automatic refund system. This mechanism was created for citizens who, although not required to declare, had tax withheld at source in 2024.
This group, composed of about 4 million people with income of up to two minimum wages, will receive the amounts without needing to submit the declaration.
- Extra batch date: Payment for these cases is expected to start on July 15, 2026.
- Credit method: The deposit will be made via Pix, using the CPF key mandatorily.
- Total amount: The government is expected to inject around R$ 500 million into the economy with this measure, with an average ticket of R$ 125 per taxpayer.
The government’s expectation is that approximately 80% of people entitled to the benefit will already have the money in their account by the end of the second batch.
Priority criteria in the waiting line
The release of the IRPF 2026 refund follows a priority order defined by law. In addition to the groups that already have guaranteed preference, the use of technological resources has started to offer an advantage in the payment queue.
The receipt sequence occurs as follows: first, the elderly; then, taxpayers with serious illnesses or disabilities; next, teachers whose main source of income is teaching.
Next are those who simultaneously use the pre-filled declaration and choose to receive via Pix.
Then come those who adopt only one of these digital tools. Finally, the other taxpayers receive according to the order of submission of the declaration.
Guidelines to avoid delays
The reduction in the number of batches requires taxpayers to be even more careful when providing information.
For accountants, early submission and the use of the pre-filled declaration have become essential tactics to ensure the client is not left for the last batches.
Any inconsistency or error in the data can lead the document to the tax mesh, delaying payment indefinitely.
Therefore, detailed review is the best way to ensure that the IRPF 2026 Refund arrives as planned.
