Installment Pix, which will officially launch in September 2025, is already known by 52% of Brazilians and offers the possibility to pay for purchases in installments without a credit card, with no annual fee and growing adoption.
The Installment Pix, which will be officially launched in September 2025, is already available at some financial institutions and is gaining traction as an alternative to credit cards. The tool, which allows purchases to be made in installments without a credit card and without an annual fee, is known by 52% of Brazilians, according to a Google survey.
The study shows that Pix, created in November 2020, is already used by 92% of the adult population in the country and moved R$ 64 billion in 2024. It has already established itself as one of the main payment methods in Brazil and now, with the new installment feature, it is competing with credit cards.
Pix and Credit Cards Share Preference
According to the survey, credit cards remain the second most used payment method by Brazilians, with 58% of people increasing their spending in this category over the past five years. However, the behavior varies according to social class. Among consumers in Class A, reward programs and benefits are the main attractions. In Classes D and E, an increase in the limit is considered essential.

Amid global tensions, Brazil blocks the United States’ proposal at the WTO and paves the way for a trade crisis and possible retaliations.
The Installment Pix emerges in this context as an alternative to the card in situations where users do not want to compromise their available limit. The tool instantly credits the full amount to the recipient’s account while the payer settles the transaction in previously defined installments.
Usage Profile by Type of Purchase
The survey indicates that Brazilians still use credit cards for higher value purchases, such as tickets, accommodations, electronics, and furniture. However, to avoid compromising their limits with these expenses, many opt for the Installment Pix when available.
On the other hand, Pix is widely used for subscription services, delivery apps, online shopping, and transfers to family members. In physical environments, the tool is preferred for everyday purchases, dining, entertainment, and in-person services.
Growth of Acceptance in Commerce
According to the survey, 9 out of 10 merchants already offer Pix as a payment method and most of them prefer to receive through this channel due to immediate liquidity. Google found that 86% of Brazilians consider Pix the “payment method of the future” compared to credit cards. Another 80% highlighted the speed of the tool and 75% stated that it is easier to use.
The study also revealed generational differences in the tool’s usage. The audience aged 18 to 24 is the most frequent user of Pix, with a 76% adoption rate. Among people over 55, this number drops to 42%.
Google’s Perspectives on the Market
Gustavo Pena, head of Industry and Fintechs at Google, stated that there is a complementarity between traditional payment methods and digital ones. “Credit cards and Pix will coexist, along with any new solutions that emerge,” he said in an interview with CNN.
Thais Melendez, leader of Strategic Insights at Google, emphasized that consumers are more attentive to financial control. “Pix comes as a facilitator in this process, and the trend is that adoption will continue to grow across all social classes and age groups,” she stated.
Google, which integrated Pix transfers into its digital wallet Google Pay in 2024, sees the tool as an attraction to expand its user base.
What to Expect with the Official Launch
With the official launch of the Installment Pix in September 2025, the expectation is that more financial institutions will offer the functionality and that acceptance in commerce will increase. The ability to make purchases in installments without a credit card may attract consumers looking for alternatives to debt on their credit cards.
Google’s survey shows that the tool is on the rise in all regions of the country. The combination of immediate liquidity for merchants and accessible installment options for consumers could consolidate the Installment Pix as one of the main payment methods in the market in the coming years.
