Uber Rule Update for 2026 Changes Vehicle and Driver Criteria for Comfort and Black Categories, With Different Impacts by City, Stricter Manufacturing Requirements, and Exclusion of Previously Accepted Models, According to Official Platform Communications.
According to information from the portal Garagem360, Uber has begun implementing an update in 2026 to the eligibility rules for vehicles and drivers for the Uber Black and Uber Comfort categories in Brazil.
The changes involve criteria for minimum manufacturing year, color requirements, and the removal of certain models from the accepted lists, with variations depending on the city and category.
According to the company, the new rules are already in effect and need to be observed by drivers who are currently driving or plan to drive in the higher categories of the platform.

Changes in Uber Premium Categories in 2026
In a statement published on its official channels, Uber reports that the update was defined based on user research and internal analyses.
According to the company, the criteria consider aspects identified by passengers as relevant when choosing categories such as Comfort and Black, including interior space, trunk capacity, and comfort items.
Furthermore, the platform states that the review aims to align the available fleet with the expectations associated with these categories.
Uber does not detail the results of the research but claims that the data informed the redefinition of eligible models and technical requirements.
In practice, the changes concentrate on two points.
The first is the tightening of the minimum year rules for certain vehicles in specific cities.
The second is the exclusion of some models from the list, regardless of the manufacturing year.
Uber Black 2026: Excluded Models and New Requirements

In the case of Uber Black, the company confirmed that, starting in January 2026, some vehicles will no longer be accepted in the category even when new.
The models in this condition include Renault Kardian, Chery Tiggo 3, Chery Tiggo 3X, Peugeot E-2008, Hyundai Kona Hybrid, JAC Motors J3 Turin, and JAC Motors iEV 40.
Regarding the Citroën Basalt, Uber clarifies that the model could be registered until December 31, 2025.
Vehicles registered on the platform by that date remain eligible to operate, including in Black, until December 31, 2026.
After this deadline, the model will no longer be eligible for new activations.
In addition to the list of models, Uber Black maintains technical requirements that are already known.
The vehicle must have air conditioning, four doors, and specific colors, such as black, silver, gray, lead, navy blue, brown, or white.
For the driver, the platform continues to require a minimum usage history.
Access to the category depends on completing at least 100 trips in other modes, excluding services such as Uber Moto, Envios Moto, and Uber Taxi.
A minimum average rating of 4.85 is also required.
Minimum Year for Uber Black Varies by Capital
Another relevant point is the variation in the minimum manufacturing year depending on the municipality.
The table released by Uber indicates that in São Paulo, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, and Brasília, vehicles classified as “other models” must be from 2019 or newer.
In Rio de Janeiro, this cut-off is 2017.
Some specific models have higher requirements.
The Volkswagen Virtus appears with a minimum year of 2025 in capitals like São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
In other situations, vehicles like Renault Duster, Volkswagen Nivus, and Honda City require manufacturing from 2023, depending on the city.
The company emphasizes that the complete list should be consulted directly on the official channels.
Criteria may vary between capitals and also in medium-sized municipalities.
Uber Comfort 2026: End of Logan and Stricter Rules

In Uber Comfort, the changes involve both the minimum manufacturing year and the permanence of traditional models in the category.
Uber confirmed that the Renault Logan will no longer be accepted in Comfort starting July 6, 2026, regardless of the vehicle’s year.
Until that date, the model can continue operating, provided it meets the other municipality requirements.
After the deadline, the Logan will no longer be on the list of eligible vehicles for new trips in this category.
Additionally, cities like São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro have begun to require more recent minimum years for some models.
Etios Sedan, Volkswagen Voyage, Chevrolet Prisma, Renault Logan, and Chevrolet Cobalt have a cut-off of 2019 in these markets.
Meanwhile, Fiat Argo and Volkswagen Polo require manufacturing from 2023.
In other capitals, the criteria vary.
In Brasília, for example, the minimum year is 2018 for some of these sedans and 2019 for “other models.”
Argo and Polo still have a requirement of 2023.
Uber emphasizes that these rules may change based on local decisions.
Driver Requirements Remain High
In addition to the vehicle, the driver profile continues to be a determining factor.
To work on Uber Comfort, the company requires air conditioning, four doors, and a minimum history of 100 trips in other categories.
The minimum rating also varies by city.
In Brasília, Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Joinville, Londrina, and Caxias do Sul, the requirement is 4.85.
In other cities, the threshold given by Uber is 4.80.
In its communications, the platform also reminds that categories like UberX can be affected by municipal regulations.
In cities where there are legal limits on vehicle age, cars manufactured up to 2015 may stop receiving requests, according to local regulations.
How to Check if the Car is Still Accepted
In light of the changes, Uber recommends that drivers consult the official list of eligible vehicles and the specific rules for each category and city.
The platform advises that this check should be done directly on the official channels.
The company warns that decisions based on rules from other municipalities may lead to misinterpretation.
