European Ford Mondeo with 2.5 Turbo Engine of 220 hp, 7.6 s from 0–100 km/h, fuel consumption of up to 10.75 km/l, 500 L trunk — a complete sedan forgotten here.
The European Ford Mondeo, especially in the configuration with the 2.5 Turbo engine, was one of the most complete sedans that the brand produced. While in Brazil the Fusion took on the role of a large sedan and dominated the streets, the Mondeo stood out in the European market by delivering power, efficiency, and interior space in a sophisticated package.
It was Ford’s answer to the premium mid-large sedan segment, designed to compete against the Volkswagen Passat, Opel Vectra, and even Japanese models like the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. However, here, the model went unnoticed, overshadowed by its sibling Fusion.
2.5 Turbo Engine of 220 hp: Sports Performance Disguised
The big highlight of the Mondeo was the 2.5 Turbo five-cylinder engine, capable of delivering 220 hp of power and torque close to 32 kgfm.

Paired with a six-speed manual transmission (or automatic in some versions), it accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds, performance worthy of sports cars of the time.
Beyond the agility, the smooth operation of the five-cylinder gave the Mondeo a refined and pleasurable ride, combining sportiness with the comfort of an executive sedan.
Balanced Consumption and Long-Distance Range
Despite the powerful engine, the Mondeo had balanced fuel consumption for its category. Its combined averages were close to 10.7 km/l, reaching up to 12 km/l on highways.
With a tank of approximately 60 liters, the sedan could travel over 600 km on a full tank, competitive range for long trips, reinforcing its profile as a road and executive car.
Space and Comfort of a European Mid-Large Sedan
The Mondeo stood out for its ample size and superior interior space. With nearly 4.80 meters in length and 2.80 meters in wheelbase, it offered comfort for five adult occupants and a trunk of 500 liters, suitable for family trips.
It was, therefore, a natural choice for those seeking versatility without sacrificing performance and technology, combining the space of a large sedan with the sporty feel of a turbo engine.
A Complete Sedan That Remained Marginalized in Brazil
The European Ford Mondeo 2.5 Turbo was a complete sedan: powerful, spacious, efficient, and well-equipped. It offered 220 hp, acceleration in 7.6 seconds, average fuel consumption of 10.7 km/l, and 500 liters of trunk space, but was ultimately overlooked in Brazil, where the Fusion alone took on the role of Ford’s sedan.
Today, the Mondeo is remembered as a refined car that could have carved a niche here, but remained confined to international markets.
