Free program targets low-income families in the area served by Enel São Paulo and expands the replacement of old refrigerators with more efficient models, in an initiative that combines savings on electricity bills, reduction of energy waste, and proper disposal of replaced equipment.
Enel São Paulo has expanded the free refrigerator replacement program and now aims to replace 1,300 appliances per month in its concession area.
Focusing on low-income families, the distributor intends to reach approximately 27,000 appliances replaced by the end of 2027, in addition to reducing energy consumption in the homes served by the initiative.
In the early months of 2026, the action gained momentum and began to record a higher volume of deliveries, according to the company.

Between January and April, the monthly number of refrigerators replaced doubled, going from 500 units to more than a thousand appliances delivered per month, before the new projection announced by the distributor.
Created within the Enel São Paulo Energy Efficiency Program, the project is made possible by the National Electric Energy Agency, Aneel, and integrates actions aimed at more efficient use of electricity.
In practice, the proposal is to remove old refrigerators from circulation, which tend to consume more energy, and deliver new, more efficient, and economical models to selected families.
Who can receive the free refrigerator
The free replacement does not occur by simple order of request nor is it automatically valid for all distributor customers.
According to information released about the program, the initiative serves residential consumers of Enel São Paulo, especially low-income families or customers with a profile compatible with energy efficiency actions.
To participate, the consumer must meet criteria such as being a residential customer of Enel, having electricity bills up to date, having an old working refrigerator, and presenting an average monthly consumption of up to 200 kWh.
Eligibility for the Social Electricity Tariff may also be considered, in addition to the technical diagnosis made by the distributor to verify if the replacement of the equipment is indicated in the evaluated case.
Typically, registration occurs in specific actions carried out in neighborhoods or in partnerships with city halls, community associations, and local organizations that help bring the program closer to the families served.
In these steps, interested parties must present personal documents, such as ID and CPF, as well as a recent electricity bill so that the responsible team can register and evaluate the information.
How the selection of residents works
After registration, teams linked to the program conduct an energy diagnosis in the residences to verify consumption habits, conditions of the old equipment, and the possibility of savings with the replacement.
This technical evaluation is an important step in the process because it defines which customers are eligible to proceed in the selection and receive the new equipment, according to the program’s criteria.
In previous actions of Enel Compartilha Eficiência, the company informed that the selected customers had already undergone a consumption evaluation in their residences before the delivery of the new refrigerators.
For this reason, the exchange depends on technical criteria, equipment availability, and the opening of scheduled actions by the distributor in each neighborhood or municipality served.
The procedure also includes the removal of old refrigerators, which are taken out of circulation after the delivery of the new appliances to the selected families.
According to Enel, the higher consumption equipment is destined for recycling, a measure that prevents improper reuse and reinforces the program’s environmental objective.
Refrigerator exchange can reduce the electricity bill
Old refrigerators can have a significant impact on monthly energy consumption, especially when they are in poor condition, with compromised sealing or irregular functioning.
By replacing these appliances with more efficient models, the program aims to reduce electricity waste and alleviate part of the expenses of the families served.
In addition to delivering the refrigerators, Enel states that the program also aims to encourage conscious energy use by providing guidance to residents on more efficient daily habits.
With this combination of equipment exchange and consumption guidance, the initiative seeks to expand the impact within residences and reduce losses associated with old and inefficient appliances.
The company reported that the action benefits low-income families with new, more efficient, and economical appliances.
From the perspective of the electrical system, the measure combines direct consumer assistance with an energy efficiency policy, as it reduces the demand caused by old equipment.
Cities served by Enel São Paulo
The initiative applies to the concession area of Enel São Paulo, responsible for serving the capital of São Paulo and municipalities in the São Paulo Metropolitan Region.
In January 2026, for example, the distributor announced the replacement of 192 refrigerators in São Paulo, Carapicuíba, and Pirapora do Bom Jesus, within the Enel Compartilha Eficiência.
Another phase, announced in April 2026, covered neighborhoods of the São Paulo capital, including Jardim Planalto, Vila Campanella, Jardim Matarazzo, and Parque Regina.
At that time, the company reported that 180 old refrigerators would be replaced with new equipment for customers previously selected after an energy diagnosis.
These actions indicate that the program occurs in a decentralized manner, with phases in different neighborhoods and municipalities in the area served by the distributor.
Thus, participation depends on the opening of registrations in the covered locations, the analysis of criteria, and subsequent confirmation made by Enel São Paulo itself.
Goal of 27 thousand refrigerators by 2027
With the increase in the delivery pace, Enel São Paulo intends to maintain a monthly replacement average sufficient to reach about 27 thousand refrigerators by December 2027.
This number reinforces the scale of the program compared to the volume recorded at the beginning of 2026, when the company was still operating with a lower level of monthly replacements.
The distributor also relates the initiative to the reduction of expenses on the electricity bill and the increase in the comfort of the families served.
Even so, the benefit depends on prior selection, energy diagnosis, and compliance with the criteria defined for each phase of the program.
Residents of the Enel São Paulo concession area should follow the distributor’s official channels and the actions announced in neighborhoods, community associations, city halls, or service points.
The free replacement is only confirmed after technical analysis and communication from the company itself to the selected customer.
