AET of Malaysia MISC Berhad Received Eagle Petrolina, the First of Four Dynamic Positioning Suezmax Tankers Designed Specifically for Long-Term Charter to Petrobras.
At the request of Petrobras, Eagle Petrolina was built at Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) in South Korea, where its three sister ships are under construction and are expected to be delivered later this year. The four vessels, 152,000 DWT, were built according to Petrobras‘ technical requirements for DP2 tankers in collaboration with SHI, DNV-GL, and Eaglestar and will fully comply with IMO NOx Tier 3 and SOx emission requirements, AET said.
Each vessel is equipped with electrically driven cargo pumps to enhance fuel efficiency, high-powered thrusters, and is fully capable of operating in the expected weather conditions for its class.

Eagle Petrolina was delivered to AET on May 22, 2020, and is set to commence operations in mid-June, joining the two vessels that AET is already operating in the Brazilian Basin for Petrobras.
“Safely building and delivering Eagle Petrolina amid the COVID-19 outbreak is a significant achievement and a testament to the commitment of all parties involved. I would like to thank everyone at Samsung Heavy Industries, Eaglestar, DNV-GL, Petrobras, and AET for their excellent collaboration and management in achieving this milestone,” said AET’s President and CEO, Captain Rajalingam Subramanian.
“For AET, seeing the agreement we reached with Petrobras two years ago coming into operation is another important step in the growth of our specialized DP activities in the Brazilian Basin and in our partnership with Petrobras.”
