The Vessel Is the 19th and Final Independence-Class Littoral Combat Ship Built by Austal USA, Marking a Significant Moment for the Program.
Austal USA announced the successful completion of acceptance testing for the future USS Pierre (LCS 38). This is the 19th Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) of the Independence variant. The ship returned to port on June 11 after undergoing rigorous at-sea evaluations, demonstrating its readiness for U.S. Navy missions.
What Are Acceptance Tests?
Acceptance tests at sea are a crucial phase. They involve a comprehensive check of the ship’s main systems and equipment. The goal is to demonstrate that everything operates successfully and is ready for future missions. Successful completion requires testing, system activation, as well as efficient program management, engineering, and supply chain.
Validation by the U.S. Navy Inspection Board
The Inspection and Survey Board of the U.S. Navy (INSURV) was present throughout all stages. INSURV’s participation validates the quality of the ship’s construction. It also ensures that the vessel is in full compliance with the requirements set by the Navy.
