Galp Energia Accelerates Its Growth Plan in the National Market with New Natural Gas Supply Contract. The Acquisition of a Wind Farm from Casa dos Ventos in Rio Grande do Norte Will Boost the Company in the Energy Sector.
Giant in the Brazilian energy and fuel market, Galp Energia continues to seek expansion in 2022. The company has a new asset in the energy market. This is a wind farm acquired from Casa dos Ventos in Rio Grande do Norte, the Santo Antão Winds project, with over 200 MW of installed capacity. In addition, the company has signed its third natural gas supply contract in the country.
Acquisition of the Santo Antão Winds Project from Casa dos Ventos Will Bring New Possibilities for Galp in the National Energy Sector
The production of renewable energy in Brazil has become a stage for major investments in 2022, with Galp keeping an eye on the sector’s growth.
The company announced last week the acquisition of a new wind farm of great importance for its business portfolio in the country.

While hydroelectric plants lose capacity due to evaporation caused by heat in the reservoirs, the Philippines are installing floating solar panels on the plants’ own lakes, generating energy, reducing evaporation by up to 70%, and cooling the panels to increase electrical efficiency at the same time.

Small and flexible hydropower plants can be a game-changer for clean energy by generating electricity in previously overlooked rivers, without requiring large dams or aggressively altering the water flow.

Dongfang breaks world record and manufactures 26 MW wind turbine in China with 137-meter blades that spin so slowly they appear stationary on the horizon.
This is the Santo Antão Winds project, an enterprise with four granted wind farms (50 MW each), located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte.
The asset was acquired from Casa dos Ventos and marks another step taken by the company in its quest for growth not only in the natural gas sector but also in energy.
As a greenfield project, the Santo Antão wind farm will be 100% owned by Galp after the transaction with Casa dos Ventos.
The Portuguese company has been increasingly investing in new contracts and growth transactions in the national energy market.
Moreover, the company is already one of the leading producers of solar photovoltaic energy in the Iberian Peninsula, with an installed operational capacity of 1.2 GW.
However, Galp aims to further boost its installed capacity, expanding the numbers to 4 GW by 2025 and 12 GW by 2030.
In the Brazilian market, the company started its business with a contract with SER Energia for the acquisition of 594 MW in developing solar projects in Bahia and Rio Grande do Norte.
Additionally, besides the new wind farm acquired last week, the company also has another transaction with Casa dos Ventos for a cluster of 216 MW of wind farms under development in the Northeast.
Company Signs Third Natural Gas Supply Contract and Expands Its Presence in the National Fuel Market
The acquisition of the new wind farm marked a significant advancement in the energy sector for Galp, but this is not the company’s only focus in the national territory.
This is because it signed its third contract for the supply of natural gas in Brazil, taking new directions in the country’s fuel market.
The Portuguese oil company, a partner of Petrobras in important pre-salt fields such as Tupi, has ten-year contracts with Sergas (SE), Cegás (CE), and ES Gás.
Although the volumes are expected to be increased over the years, the natural gas contract with ES Gás provides for a supply volume of 912 million m³ until 2032.
This is the first time that the gas distributor will receive fuel from a company other than Petrobras, marking a significant contract for Galp in the region.
