At the purchase location, you will have access to informational material explaining the reason for the action. According to the institution, the demand for fair prices for kitchen gas and fuels is one of the banners of the national strike of the category, which also involves the fight for the maintenance of rights and against the dismissal of approximately a thousand workers from Fafen Araucária (PR).
Currently in Brazil, a kitchen gas cylinder costs on average 70 Reais, and we can find exorbitant prices of R$ 120 in some cities.
Since last year, the gas cylinder has been seeing price increases. According to Sindipetro, the increase is related to Petrobras adopting the pricing parity policy with international prices. Instead of calculating the production costs of gas and oil in Brazil by the Real, our currency, costs are now calculated in dollars.
For Adaedson Costa, the general coordinator of Sindipetro-LP, this change harms the poorest population, who in extreme cases have resorted to firewood for cooking.
“Petrobras has always bothered the competition because the price it practices influences the entire market. If it offers fairer prices, the competition is forced to follow. And of course, they didn’t like it, as they saw their profit margins decrease. Now, forced to follow the prices practiced abroad, Petrobras stops offering fairer prices, as it has done in the past, paving the way for current abusive prices,” he explains.
For oil workers, the way to reduce the price of kitchen gas and petroleum derivatives would be to end the price parity with the international market rate, as well as decrease the import of derivatives and resume the expansion work of refineries to serve the domestic market and generate jobs.
