The 30 turbines will be installed at the Serra da Babilônia wind farm in Bahia and will operate at a capacity of 4.8 MW to 5.1 MW, adding around 150 MW of installed capacity to the complex. The machines will be the first Cypress units manufactured and delivered in Brazil, with installation scheduled for the last quarter of 2020.
“We are very pleased to know that Rio Energy has selected GE’s Cypress platform for the Serra da Babilônia wind farm in Brazil. Rio Energy’s support has been instrumental for Brazil in its renewable energy goals, and we are proud to work with them to help deliver renewable and sustainable energy throughout the region,” says Vikas Anand, CEO of Onshore Wind for the Americas at GE.

The Cypress is GE’s most powerful onshore wind turbine currently in operation. Several of its main components will be manufactured in Brazil, including assembly at GE’s factory in Camaçari (BA) and blade production by LM Wind Power at the port of Suape (PE).
The CEO of Rio Energy, Marcos Meireles, states: “We are very excited to install the first GE Cypress wind turbines in Brazil. This agreement reinforces our commitment to help increase Brazil’s installed base, investing not only to add new turbines but also to introduce new technology that will boost onshore wind energy in Brazil.”
GE will also provide long-term operation and maintenance (O&M) services for the equipment supplied by the company at the wind farm, which may be extended to 20 years.
