GE Renewable Energy has signed a nine-year contract with SPIC Brasil for the supply of equipment, generators and other systems to modernize the São Simão hydroelectric power plant, located in Goiás
The Hydro division of GE Renewable Energy has won a contract with SPIC Brazil to become the leader of a project to modernize auxiliary services and generating units at the São Simão hydroelectric power plant. Located on the border between Goiás and Minas Gerais, in the municipalities of São Simão and Santa Vitória, the plant has six generating units that are capable of producing up to 1.710 MW, which is enough to supply 6 million homes.
Contract between GE and SPIC Brasil provides for the supply of equipment for turbines at the hydroelectric power plant
In addition to all the project's engineering, such as integration, commissioning and assembly of the six generating units, the contract between the companies also plans the supply of generators and auxiliary systems, as well as equipment for the hydroelectric power plant's turbines. The project will be supported by PowerChina, which makes up the consortium for the execution of the project, in which GE Renewable Energy is the leader. The company will be responsible for supplying mechanical, electrical, hydromechanical and SDSC BOP systems.
According to the president and CEO of the Hydro division of GE Renewable Energy, Cláudio Trejger, the modernization of the hydroelectric plant, which has been one of the main sources of renewable energy in Brazil for several decades, is very important to drive the energy transition.

SPIC Brasil pronounces on the partnership with GE
For the CEO of SPIC Brasil, Adriana Waltrick, the modernization prepares the São Simão hydroelectric plant for the future, reinforcing the reliability and efficiency of its main renewable energy generation asset in Brazil, which will use the most modern technology.
The hydroelectric power plant is located in an important and strategic location of electroenergetic flow, being an essential source for the National Power Generation System. The execution of the project is projected to last nine years, covering the entire cycle of engineering, integration, development, supply, assembly and commissioning.
The stages of manufacturing and purchasing equipment components will take place at the GE Renewable Energy unit in Taubaté and, in addition to suppliers and partners, generate opportunities for other companies operating in the industry, generating a positive impact on the sector's production chain in the country and out of it.
