Investments by General Electric – GE in Offshore Wind Energy
According to Maurício Vieira, Sales Director of Wind at GE Renewable Energy, General Electric is keeping an eye on the offshore wind energy sector. He claims that the offshore wind sector is a strategy of GE and that the company is a leader in this segment.
GE has a 13 MW platform with a rotor of about 220 meters. Not to mention some contracts that have been announced for the United States and European countries. In Brazil, the company is ready to offer offshore wind energy technology, but so far, the company has not been requested.

Illiterate or semi-literate grandmothers were trained to repair solar systems, open rural workshops, and light up homes that still depended on kerosene.

The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.

Africa has about 500,000 cell towers and most still burn diesel to operate, while companies rush to cover antennas with solar energy and avoid signal blackouts.
The executive states that investments in offshore wind energy by General Electric for Brazil will come, but it is unknown if they will be at the same speed as in other countries.
Words from the Commercial Leader of the Grid Solutions Division
According to Gilton Peixoto, Commercial Leader of the Grid Solutions Division, in addition to generating electricity through offshore wind energy, it will be necessary to transmit it to the coast. Furthermore, he emphasized that GE also has this type of technology.
Generally, this involves a transmission made in HVDC (high voltage direct current) through VSC (Voltage Source Converter) technology. This year, another project was granted by General Electric in the United Kingdom.
The offshore wind energy project was named Sofia, which connected 1,320 MW off the coast of Northern England. The project is located 220 km from the coast and is also connected to GE’s HVDC-VSC technology. According to Peixoto, the company is eager to bring these investments to Brazil.
GE Investments in Brazil
Starting with the Natural Gas market, the executive director of General Electric Gas Power Latin America, Daniel Meniuk, states that the company is already seeing more activity in the sector and also believes that in the next two years, new thermal plants will be built in inland Brazil.
Meanwhile, the president of Hydro at GE Renewable Energy, Eduardo Cardoso, states that the company is also seeing great potential in Brazil for medium-sized Hydroelectric Plants. He emphasizes that they do not have a large environmental impact and are closer to the load center.
