Gerdau Plans to Invest R$ 200 Million in Its Hometown, Rio Grande do Sul. The Amount Will Be Destined for Modernizing Its Plant in the State, Creating More Than 400 Jobs
Gerdau announced that it intends to apply new investments in the amount of R$ 200 million in its plant in Rio Grande do Sul, more precisely in Sapucaia do Sul, for modernization and renovation of its steel mill. The modernization of the unit promises to generate around 400 new job openings. One of the largest investments in the history of the plant occurs in the year that the unit celebrates 65 years of history and reinforces Gerdau’s commitment to the state where it was founded.

Activities at the Rio Grande do Sul Plant Will Be Interrupted During the Modernization Works
Activities at the steel mill of the Riograndense Unit will be interrupted starting next month, with a return expected at the beginning of next year, after the completion of the planned renovations and investments.
Market service will remain unchanged, as the unit’s rolling operations will be supplied by semi-finished products produced in other Gerdau units scattered across Brazil.
Employing 1,200 employees, the unit in Rio Grande do Sul has a capacity to produce 450,000 tons of crude steel and 495,000 tons of finished products per year, including rebar, bars, drawn wire, machine wire, and nails.
