Sharp launches 3-in-1 microwave with integrated air fryer and convection oven to replace multiple appliances in compact kitchens.

In March 2026, Sharp Electronics announced a new line of multifunctional microwaves that aims to occupy the space of three traditional appliances at once. The highlight was the SMC0985KSC model, presented as a 3-in-1 system capable of functioning as a microwave, air fryer, and convection oven in a single compact 0.9 cubic foot appliance.

According to the company itself, the appliance was developed for small kitchens, compact apartments, and consumers who want to reduce the number of appliances on their countertops. The proposal follows a growing trend in the sector: hybrid appliances that concentrate multiple functions to replace individual equipment that previously occupied separate space.

Sharp bets on 3-in-1 appliance to reduce space occupied by home appliances

Sharp’s main argument is the replacement of multiple appliances with a single compact structure.

Instead of keeping microwaves, air fryers, and small countertop ovens running separately, the new model brings the three systems together in a single unit.

This means the appliance can quickly heat meals using microwaves, bake food with hot air circulation, and also fry with a low amount of oil using technology similar to modern air fryers.

The proposal aims to solve an increasingly common problem in urban apartments: lack of usable kitchen space.

In markets such as North America, Europe, and Asia, compact kitchens are strongly driving the growth of multifunctional home appliances.

Convection technology aims to approximate the result of a traditional oven

One of the appliance’s differentials is the integrated convection system. Unlike a traditional microwave, which heats food primarily through the vibration of water molecules, the convection mode uses hot air circulation inside the chamber.

This allows food to be baked more uniformly, creating an external texture closer to that achieved in conventional ovens.

According to Sharp, the system was designed to prepare pizzas, pasta, meats, and frozen foods with better visual finish and crispness.

This function is precisely what brings these hybrid appliances closer to a possible partial replacement of small domestic ovens.

Air fryer function expands trend of cooking with less oil

In recent years, air fryers have become one of the strongest segments in the home appliance market.

The technology uses intense hot air circulation to produce a crispy texture without the need for deep-frying in oil.

By integrating this function into the microwave, Sharp aims to capture consumers interested in practicality without adding another appliance to the kitchen. The central idea is to transform the microwave into a multifunctional culinary station, reducing dependence on separate equipment for simple daily tasks.

Compact capacity shows focus on apartments and smaller kitchens

The model has a capacity of approximately 0.9 cubic feet, a common measurement for compact countertop microwaves.

This reinforces its positioning towards small apartments, minimalist kitchens, and urban residences with limited available space.

Although it doesn’t directly compete with large built-in ovens, the appliance targets users who prioritize speed, convenience, and space-saving.

This movement accompanies an important change in modern residential design, especially in large cities, where kitchens are becoming smaller in many developments.

Hybrid appliance market grows rapidly worldwide

Sharp’s strategy is not isolated. Manufacturers from different countries have been trying to create appliances capable of combining multiple functions.

Today, there are already machines that combine electric oven, grill, air fryer, steamer, toaster, and even smart functions connected to the internet.

The goal is to reduce the number of appliances needed at home and increase the versatility of each piece of equipment. This trend also addresses changes in consumer behavior, who seek practicality, speed, and space optimization.

How much does it cost abroad and why is it not yet available in Brazil?

In the international market, the Sharp SMC0985KSC appears as a compact 0.9 cubic foot, 900 W appliance that combines microwave, air fryer, and convection oven in the same unit, exactly as Sharp Canada described in the announcement on March 4, 2026.

At Canadian retailers, the model was listed for about C$ 269.99, while the equivalent North American version SMC0985KS appears on the official Sharp USA store for US$ 169.99. In direct conversion, this places the product in the approximate range of R$ 835 to R$ 975, before shipping, taxes, commercial exchange rate, warranty, and resale margin.

For Brazil, there is no confirmation of an official launch of the SMC0985KSC.

Compact kitchens drive a new generation of multifunctional appliances

The growth of this type of product accompanies urban and real estate transformations in different parts of the world.

Smaller apartments, integrated kitchens, and reduced usable space are pressuring manufacturers to create more compact solutions. At the same time, consumers have come to value appliances that deliver multiple functions without increasing space consumption.

This is completely changing the design of modern appliances, bringing different categories together into a single device.
