Passenger And Cargo Transport To The Campos Basin Will Be Facilitated By Petrobras’ New Agreements With CHC Helicopter
Last week, CHC Helicopter announced the signing of five exclusive contracts with the Brazilian state energy giant Petrobras. Although the company did not disclose the exact value of these contracts, they were estimated to be worth millions. The agreement made between the companies allows for the offshore transport of passengers and small cargo to the Campos Basin – the main sedimentary area already explored on the Brazilian coast – for the next 4 to 5 years.
New Contracts Generate New Jobs
CHC’s Operations Director in Brazil, Gilson Caputo, explained that these projects are expected to start in the second half of 2023 and were awarded as a result of a “public tender” held in August 2022. To ensure the progress of the contracts, CHC Brazil will operate five Leonardo AW139 helicopters from new bases located in Campos dos Goytacazes, Bartolomeu Lisandro Airport, and Eurico de Aguiar Salles Airport in Vitória.
In addition, CHC aims to expand its fleet to around ten medium and large aircraft to support the new contracts, which also create new jobs in the region, as the helicopter operator plans to increase the size of its team to approximately 280 employees in Brazil.

CHC Helicopter Wishes To Operate In More Countries In Latin America And The World
According to Gilson Caputo: “These new contract achievements are a testament to the fantastic and hardworking team we have here in Brazil. We are very proud to have been chosen by Petrobras for this project in Campos and the Vitória Basin. Supporting energy production is a core specialty of CHC and we are committed to expanding our operations in Latin America in the coming years.”
CHC also emphasized that it has “significant long-term growth plans” for Latin America. The company already has operations in Brazil and Mexico, having previously also operated in Suriname, Uruguay, and the Falkland Islands. Additionally, the helicopter operator secured a new contract in 2022 for offshore transport services in the Dutch sector of the North Sea.
