Google Released A New Report That Identifies The Absence Of More Than Half A Million IT Professionals In Brazil By 2025.
Currently, with the significant presence of technology in our lives today, it is almost impossible to imagine life without it. However, despite this high demand, there is still a limited number of qualified technology professionals in the Brazilian market, which is expected to worsen significantly in the coming years.
Data from Google for Startups, in partnership with Abstartups and Box 1824, indicates that a total of 85 million jobs will remain unfilled worldwide due to the lack of IT professionals for these vacancies.
According to André Barrence, Director of Google for Startups for Latin America, “there are many vacancies and few qualified professionals to meet the current market needs.”

Deficit May Exceed 500,000 In Brazil By 2025
Without workers, the world could lose out on generating approximately US$ 8.5 trillion in annual revenue.
In Brazil, Google’s report estimates a deficit of 530,000 technology professionals from 2021 to 2025. According to André Barrence, the Director of Google for Startups for Latin America, the lack of talent in the ecosystem is substantial.
There are thousands of vacancies and few qualified workers. There is a structural issue in the country’s education system that goes far beyond technology qualifications in higher education.
According to Barrence, this challenge can only be addressed with medium- and long-term actions. The goal is to encourage a conversation about the importance of exploring technology at various stages throughout life. The research, released on May 31, led by Google, calculated that there will be 53,000 new technology graduates each year between 2021 and 2025 in Brazil, totaling about 265,000.
However, the report states that the national market will have a demand for 800,000 new talents during these same years. Therefore, there will be a deficit of at least 530,000 professionals trained in the sector.
Challenges In The Market That Generate The Absence Of Technology Professionals
Experts state that the main obstacles encountered in the market that create this imbalance between IT professionals and demand are the limited conditions for studying, the lag in teaching logical thinking in Brazilian schools, the distance between young Brazilians and major centers of technological knowledge, and young people struggling to find their first tech job and migrating to other fields.
The salaries in Brazil are not attractive compared to international markets, causing many qualified professionals to work abroad, depleting the workforce in the country, while the technology market excludes women and Black individuals, as Brazil has few incentives for the inclusion of politically marginalized groups.
Google’s research shows that more people need to study technology and there needs to be more support for Brazilian businesses to retain talent in the country, creating training and experience, increasing the number of active professionals, and thereby ensuring seniority in the sector. This reinforces the fact that the challenge requires attention and active efforts from all sectors of society.
